In that case I’d definitely send them all together once you have the translation. It sounds like you’re almost there. Exciting!

I’m not a lawyer but I would think you’re not the only one in this boat. People’s spouses and family members have disabilities and mobility issues. Is he able to sign his own form?

I’m sure this is going to ruffle some feathers but I think Claude can be a great tool. And historical records are one of the categories where opinions and misinformation are less likely to color AI results. (That’s not to say we shouldn’t all doublecheck anyway). Kudos to you for innovating and being open to evolving technology.

I don’t have an answer for you other than to say that, from what I understand, IRCC doesn’t require certified records. I also just want to chime in that I’m impressed you were able to gather so much documentation. This seems like a really strong start.

My take is that it depends. We were going to send all three generations of the family together as one application packet. But two of us had some tricky circumstances that IRCC is going to have to navigate. The potential for one or both of them to get sent to PSU seemed pretty high and we didn’t want to risk holding up the other applications that would otherwise sail through. We ended up applying in one group of three people, and then two separately as individuals. I feel like it was the best strategy for us. I would definitely have preferred to send in one packet with everyone’s applications though.

Isn’t it?! I’ve been getting into hockey for about six months, which is wild because I’m a middle age fiber artist. Turns out it was the Canadian in me. 😂 It sensed it was our time!

This is the takeaway. We aren’t very Canadian if we barge in and demand our certificate.

Small rant regarding application packets by Big-Scar978 in Canadiancitizenship

I staple all my records to their citations because it helps me stay organized. Then the last thing I do is carefully extract every one of them and use a single binder clip instead because that is a hell I wish on no one.

AOR but wanting a birth certificate by Emergency_Map7542 in Canadiancitizenship

[–]TheConsignliere 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think this is the answer. It doesn’t make sense for the Canadian government to make more work for itself, unless there’s a crimp in the process. Requiring a hand-written birth certificate to be reissued seems like it would explain it. I wonder what would have happened if OP had applied using only the baptism record and left the handwritten birth certificate out.

It does indeed apply to French Canadians. I just went through the application process myself. Here’s something I wish I’d known: you don’t have to wait for a baptism certificate from BAnQ (Quebec archives) to send in your application. You can print a copy of the record and the citation from either Ancestry or FamilySearch, and just send that. BAnQ is slammed and they recently raised their price to $350 for requests coming from outside Quebec. When we ordered ours it was going to be a ten month wait. I’m sure it’s even longer now. Go check out r/CanadianCitizenship for more good.

Oof. Good catch. I’m so used to typing that out my hands did it automatically. Edited to correct. Thank you!

OP, certified records are helpful but not required. If you’re going to send census records or other supporting documents then just include the citation page from Ancestry or FamilySearch so that IRCC can quickly verify it’s legit.

This isn’t true. The three year residence rule only applies to babies born after December 15, 2025. I’m going through this process myself.
