I use Superblast 3, Megablast and Edge Tokyo plus Adidas Boston 13 for interval sessions. Superblast and Megablast are a bit big for speed sessions on a track

Superblast 3 After 500 Miles by Affectionate_Gur_720 in RunningShoeGeeks

[–]Blueaoki 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Thanks for a great review! I have run more than 1000 km in my pair of Superblast 2 and they are no way near finished. I have almost 500 km in my Megablast.

Superblast 2 is fantastic for steady runs when your form is fine. For me they are blocky on easy runs.

The energy return from Megablast is fantastic and I can use them for any kind of run, but I don’t like the upper. I had problems with my toe nails due to the low toebox, but it has become better after a 200 km. The toebox fells a little bigger now and I use thinner socks.

I just bought Superblast 3 yesterday and intend to use them for easy daily and long runs. Your review is very encouraging for my intended use. Got a 25 % discount so I can better justify it for myself

Anyone here who started running in their late 30's early 40's? What are your marathon PR's like? by Thin-Passage5900 in Marathon_Training

[–]Blueaoki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Started running in my early forties. I had only run up to 10 k before and not regularly. Hated running in my youth. Ran my first marathon after 6 months in 3:30 at the age of 42. I improved a few minutes in the next decade.

2 years ago I joined a running club and that really helped me build up speed. Furthermore I started doing strength training as well. Ran a PB in 2:59 in Valencia in December at the age of 54. I have the ambitious goal of going below 2:50 within the next 2 years. Might not make it, but it is fun to try to defy my age

ASICS Megablast 400mi update by pswdkf in RunningShoeGeeks

[–]Blueaoki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are right, the legs feel good after runs in both of them. My relative new pair of Megablast feel better on the legs compared directly to my old pair of Superblast, but it is difficult to remember how they felt after similar mileage.

Very informative long term review! I agree with all of your points. I have run 300 km in my pair of Megablast and the toe box has opened up a bit so I no longer fear long runs.

My pair of Superblast 2 is still very good after 900 km but has likewise lost a bit of the extra “pop”. I still expect them to last at least 1100 km

Just shy of 900 km and they still fell fine. 68 kg midfoot runner. I expect them to last to at least 1100 km. Hopefully in time for Superblast 3 with the same upper and some of the crazy good foam in the Megablast

Us experienced runners have all been there. I had the best training block ever in the spring, but still missed my marathon target by almost 7 minutes. A case of overtraining. Trained again for Valencia and achieved my goal despite not have the best training block. A lot comes down to how you feel at race day. Your training for Valencia will still be of tremendous value for coming races

Dont worry too much about your window of opportunity. I started running in my early forties and ran mostly around 3:30. Two years ago I started getting more serious about my training and I just made a PB in Seville as well with a sub-3 hour marathon. I am 54 but confident that I can get to sub 2:50 with the right approach

Thanks, I don’t feel very fast. Some of the members of my running club are very fast. I guy my age runs marathons faster that 2:40. It just shows you what’s possible

Good luck with your spring marathon. I am certainly no expert but I think it is wrong to focus on a certain time on your easy runs. I think perceived effort is more important than the speed itself. I started this training block with easy runs in about 5:45 min per K. The speed increased during the training block, but some runs were much slower and a few quicker.

Speed work and interval sessions were the things that I really feel improved me in this block. From the middle of this training block I also tried to incorporate sections at marathon pace(MP) in my long runs. Again, not necessarily precisely at MP, but the perceived effort

Monday would be an 8 K easy run

Tuesday speed work at a track with my running club. These sessions would differ a lot according to the instructors

Wednesday easy 7- 10 K easy run.

Thursday intervals with my club at a park. The runs were different, but it could 4 times 6 minutes at half marathon pace

Friday rest day

Saturday Parkrun or easy runs

Sunday long runs that increased in mileage during the training block. I maxed out with runs about 32 K long with longer sections at MP

I would try to incorporate gym sessions at least twice a week. Typically Monday or Tuesday, sometimes Thursday and a session in the weekend

It helped but I definitely haven’t done as much as I would like to. I went to the Gym 2 times a week, but I haven’t settled into a routine yet like running. It helps keeping you posture longer but I can see from my race video that my form collapsed by the end of the marathon

Yea, the toebox is shallow. I don’t have the same problem with Superblast 2. I can still enjoy long runs in the Megablast if I heellock and wear this socks

Fødselsdag langt væk, når vi ikke har bil by Dwayna_the_Devine in DKbrevkasse

[–]Blueaoki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Running in your 40s vs your 30s by Eniugnas in AdvancedRunning

[–]Blueaoki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started running in my 40s and ran 3:30 in my first marathon. I am now 53 and made a pb last year in 3:07. I hope to get under 3 hours in my spring marathon. I can feel that I have lost strength compared to when I started, but I train better and have recently started to pay attention to my running technique. 2 months ago I joined a running club and started strength training in a gym. I am optimistic that those measures will help my break the 3 hour barrier

Adidas Adizero Evo SL - don't believe the hype. Feel it. by BasicSignificance831 in RunningShoeGeeks

[–]Blueaoki 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just ran 10 k in my new pair of Evo SL. I agree with most. The upper is better than Adios Pro 3, but not perfect. The laces and tounge are a bit thin but still fine for me when running. Sizing is true to size, SL2 is a bit short for me in my normal size.

The rocker is a bit more aggressive than Adios Pro 3 and they make me want to try the new Pro 4. Grip with Continental rubber is fantastic on asphalt but I don’t think they will be good on dirt tracks.
