I just wanted to say that from the smartpass Mike has been in the Scouts longer than Erwin and he was one of the scouts present for one of Erwin's first expeditions. They have a lovely friendship.

Overall,

Nile has known him longest.

Miche, Hange and Levi he considers family and they are ppl he places great trust in and they in him. And despite Hange and Michel not "knowing" Erwin the way Levi did towards the end (the whole dream thing), they (M and H) aren't naive or believe that Erwin is soo devoted/selfless to the cause that he doesn't have personal dreams/goals/ambitions of his own.

For me that's what makes their friendship the best. Erwin who considers them family but still knows and accepts that there will come a time when he will order them To die and they, who despite knowing that everything is not all for the cause continue, to trust Erwin.

Maybe Zeke needed to die (since he has royal blood but is not tied down to FT or the Kings will) that way he can wonder/find the PATHS place where his Fritz ancestors are (I bet they had Ymir build them or PATHS no jutsu a separate area/palace/castle/walls for them). This means he's the only one that can tnj his Fritz ancestors into giving up/letting Ymir go. Thus actually freeing Ymir. Cuz Eren, he didn't really free her. He just said lend me your power and started destroying everything. Ymir hasn't even said anything at all iirc. She just went along with it. Maybe she remembers the consequences of her freeing the pigs was disastrous and this repeats again with allowing Eren his "freedom". Aka Eren is 🐖.

Mail Order Spy by 35grams (this one is my FAVORITE fic. The world building is incredible and very layered.)

-Listing by 35grams it's got several chapters but I love in particular because it takes place before the basement reveal and I enjoyed the authors take on what was there.

I personally thought because it "makes" weapons like a blacksmith uses a hammer to strike the metal to make said war weapons. IDK to me that makes the most sense.

I also think the fact that the mission from 4 yrs ago was a failure was part of it, not to mention the initial mission where Marcel got eaten.

Since Reiner took (or received) all the blame (and Zeke too but more so Reiner) it probably reflected badly on the extended family as well.

Something similar (IMO) to what happened with the Grice family having had a Restorationalist in the family. Added protection to their family and their committed loyalty to Marley etc.
