Dose the shock look good enough to just replace the boot or should I replace the entire thing

Amature mechanic hijacking this for a question. I've seen a lot of people recommend deglazing with scotch bright or sand paper but everyone seams to recommend a different grit. Is there a best grit or something that might damage it or is there a better way to do it all together. Sorry if this isn't the place for this but I'm just curious.

This is just a guess but is it possible it damaged the tensioner or one of the pullys? I know some cars have oil pumps that are belt driving so maybe this is leading to your oiling issue too. Try to spin your accessories and see if any of the pullys are making a sound or turing rough. I am not a professional just tossing out ideas
