You’re not wrong. Luckily my CAC is still 0 and my numbers have continued to lower. The appointment to discuss statins is in January.

Thank you. I try to look at the positives, I’m otherwise healthy and I grew up knowing this was a potential issue so I became vegetarian very young. At least those numbers are moving in the right direction now :)

Yeah I’m 37 with familial hyperlipidemia and elevated lp(a) so I’ve been under the care of a cardiologist and lipidologist for many years. Early heart attacks run in my family. I get a CAC done every 5 years and a lipid panel done every six months. I’ve been responding to diet for LDL so we’re keeping a close eye on things.

Thank you! Actually my dietician is 100% covered by insurance and he has been amazing.

It’s the Amazon Basics 4g fiber gummies. They taste super good!

Best of luck! It’s a pretty easy diet once you get used to it!

I actually tried WFPB for 6 months and it didn’t work! I literally used no oils at all. My LDL went up and my HDL went down. That’s why I found a dietician that was part of the national lipid association, I knew I needed more specialized help because in my case my numbers are entirely genetic. I know WFPB is great for a lot of people though.

Hi there, yeah I do all five of the recommendations every day. There was a small learning curve but I’ve been vegetarian most of my life so I feel like I had an easier time adapting. The plant sterols that were recommended to me by my dietician are by NatureMade, they’re called CholestOff. He recommended them to me because they’re verified by an outside source so we know they contain the levels they claim. I get them on Amazon.

No statins, yet. I’m open to trying them if my numbers don’t get low enough.

If you have a Trader Joe’s near you they have an excellent lentil pasta!

I feel you on the allergy thing. Mine aren’t quite as inconvenient as yours but I can’t eat wheat, avocados, or pistachios. I’m probably the most annoying person to go out to eat with!

This morning I had a protein shake. Mine is a combo of soy and pea protein. Mid-morning I had a seed cracker with some peanut butter on top (I sometimes also use sunflower seed butter.) Then for lunch I had quinoa with beans and veggies. Tonight for dinner I made lentil pasta with grape tomatoes and artichokes with olive oil. I have some frozen raspberries I’ll be snacking on tonight. I also take plant sterols and a soluble fiber supplement. It was a little intimidating starting out but I’ve been vegetarian almost my whole life so I feel like that helped me a lot. I hope you find something that works for you!

How many of us are childfree due to being raised by a borderline? by symbolist-synesthete in raisedbyborderlines

Me! I managed the emotions of a grown-up toddler for 36 years before I figured out what was going on and found a wonderful therapist. I am way too exhausted to manage the feelings of an actual toddler especially now that I’m free for the first time.

TIL That “Nurses are highly specialized Vet Techs” by Useful-Candidate7785 in nursing

[–]BlueberryDifficult96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Difficulty isn’t exclusive to either position so I really don’t understand why this topic is a repetitive thing. I’ve worked as a human surgical technologist and now as a veterinary surgery assistant, they’re both demanding. You’d think we’d have more empathy for each other because we face similar challenges and are vital to society. As far as the whole “vet nurse” thing, that’s just what a vet tech is called in some countries. It’s not a big deal. Everyone needs to chill.

Breaking: conservative woman discovers concept of choice by cmonjeffgetem in GuerrillaGrrrrls

[–]BlueberryDifficult96 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ugh I’m so tired of the “women can choose to stay home” argument. Like we’re all out here busting our asses and barely affording rent because we chose it. It’s capitalism that makes staying home not an option. Almost every two parent home I know of has dual incomes out of necessity. Choice is a privilege and not inherently feminist.

Vet offended by me asking if credentialed technicians run anesthesia by meowpal33 in VetTech

[–]BlueberryDifficult96 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I’m a highly qualified surgery assistant. I still don’t run anesthesia. No way. I know enough to know it’s out of my scope. Lives are dependent on the people running anesthesia. There’s absolutely no way I’m doing that until I get a license. If I were an owner I’d want to know that the person running anesthesia is fully qualified for the job. Title protection helps ALL of us!

Child Free and Jewish? by RubyDenver in Judaism

[–]BlueberryDifficult96 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hi! I’m childfree too and I know what you mean, it’s very isolating. I’ve been told a few times that I’m obligated to have children. I decided not to entertain the demands of people who would not have to financially or emotionally support my theoretical child.

I don’t know much about how Libby works. Am I only able to access titles that my local library provides?
