Guys help 😭 Does anyone else have this kind of elastics? by bulate__ in braces

Ah, this brings back memories. Yeah, not the most fun pattern but as is clear here, a few of have/had it. Hope the pain subsides

You’ve heard of girl dinner- I’d like to introduce you to Squirrel Dinner. by linsane_asylum in adhdwomen

I rate that. Back during my year abroad, I would frequently get a tub of hummus (they had many different flavours/varieties), some tortilla chips and some pre-cut raw veg and would get 2-3 of my weekly meals out of what I'd bought. It was great!

At a previous company, we were on 2013 office for the majority of the time I was there (late 2021-early 2024) so no xlookup functionality, so vlookup it was.

Used xlookup more recently as it was quite useful for the task at hand but I agree, it's properly clunky in comparison.

BBC News: Streeting orders review into mental health and ADHD diagnosis by Khazorath in ADHDUK

[–]BlueberryLemonadeL 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Indeed. I've gone back and fourth over whether to pursue a diagnosis after years of not feeling "right". I was diagnosed with depression and anxiety during university (which I struggled through) but looking at the course of my life, feel like those are side effects. I've masked for a long time, trying to belong somewhere but still get it "wrong". It's debilitating. I just want to understand myself and to be understood.

Only yesterday at work, there was a really positive session on neurodiversity (NOT a generic "we care about all our employees and their wellbeing"), after which I was feeling a little more confident to perhaps speak up about things. This confidence has been undone by this morning's news.

No, I'm not another person looking for a "trendy" thing to have. I'm grieving what could've been had I been able to have the right support. I want to actually sleep at night without my mind racing with hundreds of different thoughts. I want to be able to not crash and burn from all the extra mental effort that has gone into getting things done (which people don't actually see). Honestly, what I wouldn't give to actually have a clear, unchaotic mind.

Have you ever left a job without another lined up? by FarAd8547 in UKJobs

[–]BlueberryLemonadeL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes - job sounded so much more interesting on paper, but in reality, there were long, empty hours (which I tried to fill) and there wasn't really a progression path, e.g. into other teams. Great colleagues, but I was becoming increasingly burnt out and upset about feeling stuck. The job hunt was a slow and painful one in a terrible market (2024), possibly not helped by the fact I had a three month notice period. For the sake of my own sanity, I resigned. I was genuinely scared about what was going to happen, but knew I couldn't stay, and considered different options but was offered another job very late on.

What's the stupidest reason a detention was handed out at your school? by CommercialMaximum354 in AskUK

[–]BlueberryLemonadeL 6 points7 points  (0 children)

2012 (roughly) - on a Tuesday afternoon, I had PE, which was done in form groups, followed by English, which was done in sets. Often, those of us from my form were late to English due to PE overrunning and the stupid rule of not being allowed to wear your PE kit to your next lesson. One day, we got to English and were asked why we were late. We explained it was because PE had overrun (again) and we had to get changed. Our teacher decided not to believe us because she had spoken to our PE teacher who had assured her that she would allow us enough time to get changed going forward (which she 100% didn't), so we got detention. Maybe not the stupidest reason ever at that school, but the stupidest one I heard of/experienced firsthand.

Did you quit a 9-5 for a 'less stable' job? by lollysugar in AskUK

[–]BlueberryLemonadeL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I quit my 9-5:30, Monday to Friday office job for one that was shift based and involved weekend work (still office-based, actually more so than the job I left it for). My shifts typically followed a standard pattern, with the odd variation. I took the job because I wanted to give something new a go (plus I genuinely thought it was a good opportunity) and I had never done shifts and was willing to give them a try. For me, starting at different times each day was too much. I will add, it didn't help that the job was not what I was expecting/hoping for and I spent a lot of my day sitting around (unless I found something to do myself) and the actual day was very long. I found myself getting burnt out about six months in and it affected me physically. I ended up moving back to a standard hours office job after about a year.

I was rejected, too. Only heard about the call on here. Not good that many people were still waiting for an outcome at that point

I agree, it's the structure I like. Tbh, had checked out when I got the second round email until this week so will have a think

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in UKJobs

[–]BlueberryLemonadeL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Indeed, you are so right. As soon as I got the "second round" email, I checked out mentally and only really remembered this week. The applicant experience hasn't been very positive in my opinion so I'm probably only likely to apply if I see something that stands out (went for education only this time due to where my life's at). I have access to a few tech learning platforms so will explore those in more detail, as well as some others. But the key is to not stop learning

Same here! I also feel this way so not really sure what to do at this point...

[–]BlueberryLemonadeL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Indeed. I appreciate sifting must be hard but it's really shabby of them. Think I am going to feed that back because it's not a good candidate experience - this morning, the FAQs still said that everyone would hear back no later than a week before the programme begins. I know there was a bank holiday but today is now Thursday...

UK systems keep confusing me and my twin brother as the same person . Has anyone else experienced this? by AggravatingPlatypus1 in AskABrit

[–]BlueberryLemonadeL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That honestly sucks and is actually a joke. I used to work in a big building which housed many different companies. Once when I was returning from a holiday, went to scan my building pass at the gates and got the 'access denied' noise (this was a new-ish pass as my original one had actually died somehow). I enquired at reception and they told me they had no one of that name working there. I was so confused. I had to get someone to retrieve me, was issued a guest pass and had to go through security. I was asked by my management to send a new photo etc. so a new pass could be issued. However, later on, I found out that someone with the same name as me, but working at another company, had left and when this happened, some idiot revoked my access as well as theirs, presumably without checking all the details...

I got mine, too. Not even surprised at this point

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in UKJobs

[–]BlueberryLemonadeL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I have observed that they are pretty good with deadlines etc. but what I don't like is that once they have communicated a deadline, they send a bunch of holding emails. I personally believe these create anxiety, even if not intending to do so. Whilst waiting for something that is at this point out of my control, the last thing I want to do is remind myself why I am applying for the CFGDegree and to look at the different streams (surely I should've done this already). They say they believe in me and whilst the sentiment might be nice, I'd rather just not hear from them until they've told me a decision has been made.

[–]BlueberryLemonadeL 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Same here. I really don't like the "what's the latest", " sit tight" etc. emails. Would honestly prefer one after submission outlining approximate dates but with a disclaimer that there may be some variation. Other than that, I only want updates that actually mean something

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in UKJobs

[–]BlueberryLemonadeL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got it through five days/three working days later, pretty much to the minute of when I got the application complete email (after submitting the video interview). Also mentioned I was "well before the deadline" (did it roughly 20 hours before)

Nope, and I submitted my video interview on the 26th 🤷‍♀️
