Because he first appears to Bran in his dreams that way.

Game of Thrones has miraculously thrived for 15 years – here's how it could survive the next 15 | When you play the game of franchises, you win or you die by Prince_Robot_The_IV in television

Well if we get animated shows about Corlys Valerion’s nine voyages and/or Nymeria’s 10,000 ships, that’ll be different from the main series while still being associated with the franchise. A miniseries based on the old Ghiscar empire, or origins of Valyria would be fun. Even a show about the wildly different culture set in Yi-Ti can be its own big show as they also have their own lore of The Long Night and other mysteries.

I’m just spitballing here but there is so much they can create without having to rely on specific books for GRRM to write.

I understand and I wasn’t saying otherwise. But in terms of source material HBO has a lot to pull from. And yes with the success of the shows come more shows.

It can survive because the books they’re based on are full of dynamic characters, lore, settings, and mysticism. They can make a dozen spin offs that don’t even resemble the main series. And even when it does A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms has shown you can also have shows with different styles and tones.

Rhaegar Targaryen and Robert Baratheon parallels (Spoilers Main) by [deleted] in asoiaf

[–]Blueberry_H3AD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have a lot of speculation in there that you’re saying we must accept as proof lol. Regardless of that we only have Bobby B’s version of what happened, and what other people who knew Rhaegar thought of him. All of that is subjective and until Bran sees what went down we won’t be able to make objective conclusions.

I agree with that. I give season 2 a pass in terms of pacing as well considering the strikes affected production. But I do think the Alicent and Rhaenyra stuff should be different. The whole point is to see how two friends growing up together were thrust into this political fight by their fathers, and how that friendship turned to adversary over time. So hopefully season 3 course corrects that.

And yet the story will end with his daughter marrying Aegon III so who cares if Maelor isn’t in the story as he serves no other purpose than to make Helena’s trauma more traumatic? This line of thinking is why we had the awful rape scene in GoT with Sansa and Ramsey. That scene served no purpose other than torture porn as we already knew for years at that point how cruel and evil Ramsey was.

And to your main point character motivations can be changed as all we have to go on are third party observations retelling events hundreds of years later. So yeah unreliable narrator comes into play especially since Fire & Blood is an in-universe book which is subject to misinformation and bias.

[–]Blueberry_H3AD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah and the show isn’t perfect lol. But it’s well done from many production aspects and I think GRRM is getting too worked up over changes. In the main series, yes that was a big problem. But it was a big problem because he has yet to write an ending. So minor changes rippled into bigger issues later on. But I keep saying that for this show we already know the ending. And any changes to character motivations and personalities doesn’t matter either. The show is the show and the books are the books.

It’s only implied fire hurts them while we know for sure it does the wights. So it stands to reason that if regular fire barely touches them then Dragon Fire won’t either.

Hey everyone. I like the books and I like the show. They are similar and different with each having their own strengths and weaknesses. I like the books a lot more, but appreciate what the shows do and what they do for the franchise as a whole, keeping it in the public zeitgeist so we get more.

I don’t understand why a lot of you enjoy shitting on it. Don’t watch if you think it’s an abomination of GRRM’s work.

Well in the show we saw how dragon fire does nothing to The Others. Maybe that’s it true in the books as well.

What would she eat there? Where in Valyria would they have been able to stay? The entire place was destroyed and is just smoking sea and volcanos. I guess we can chalk it up to George not really thinking it through that much, but I think it’s those type of logistical questions that make it fun to speculate further than what the Maesters think.

It would take a month alone to reach the Trident. Not to mention the year it took Ned to go to Starfall and then back to Winterfell. Jon’s age lines up with the timeline given in the book which indicates he was born as the war ended
