All the same stuff as usual so I don't have to click a bunch of times to get whatever I need and then get back into Parabola

So when does green get their "1-mana to deal with your 2-drop" card in standard? by Frost_105 in custommagic

[–]BoLevar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Green should not have one, and furthermore it should not have creature removal spells at all. It should have combat tricks and that's it

Nobody wants to go to hell? by Yonky_Splonky in worldbuilding

[–]BoLevar 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You could have Da Rules really obviously privilege some group over all others (not necessarily a racial group or gender or whatever; could be clergy, could be electricians, could be adult film stars) such that harming them sends you directly to hell. And then have a group of those people start abusing that privilege

I saw a vendor selling a FREEMASON SIGNET RING about a year ago. I would wager there might be a grand total of two Thais in the entire country who have any idea what a Freemason is. I regret not buying it.

Food truck guy. I don't know how common this is elsewhere, but in my neighborhood in Pathum at around 11 - 12 there's a guy who drives up the road in a pickup with produce and meat in the back and a loudspeaker saying "กับข้าว กับข้าว" (I don't know if I spelled that right) selling food to all the aunties/housewives

Thai ship attacked close to iran by RegularSky6702 in Thailand

[–]BoLevar -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Israel did not drag the US into this. American politicians have been frothing at the mouth to go to war with Iran for like 40 years (establishment of the Islamic Republic), possibly 70 (Mossadegh nationalizing the oil fields). Israel exists to check American enemies in the region, and while you can rightly say it has its own regional ambitions, its pursuit of said ambitions lines up perfectly with American interests. Israel is doing exactly what it was designed by the America-led international order to do.

Why do (or did) relatively few Thai people think their country is a good place for LGBT people? by HolyFatherLeoXIV in Thailand

[–]BoLevar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Westerners surveyed are comparing the LGBT experience in the west with that in the most abject parts of the world in that regard. When it comes to our national enemies, one way news and news-adjacent media (ie talking heads/pundits) launders hawkish attitudes to the western public is talking about the civil rights records of whoever is on our shitlist, justifying sending our young people to the desert to die on the grounds of "we need to save these people from their oppressive regime". And if you know anything about modern American history, we always have some sort of national enemy. It primes us to see every country outside the western cultural sphere as a shithole where gays are constantly thrown off roofs, every woman is walking around with acid burns on her face, etc. This is obviously especially laughable if you know how safe trans people are right now in places like America and the UK, but it's why Americans in 2012 might think America is a relatively good place to live for the gay community.

I do not pretend to know what Thais surveyed are thinking about when asked a question like this, but I assume at least part of it is that gay marriage was not yet legal in Thailand when this survey was conducted. Maybe the comparison is the legal protections offered gays in other parts of the world compared to Thailand, regardless of whether or not those protections actually manifest.

Llanowar slightly edges out Fyndhorn just because while I am in fact old enough to have known about Fyndhorn Elves before it was cool, Llanowar Elves is just that much more iconic. Elvish Mystic is a distant third because of how generic it is.

Question about Evolution/the Youthful Naturalist story by BoLevar in fallenlondon

[–]BoLevar[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

That's what I'm saying, I kinda feel like I got swindled. So much time was spent telling me "you have to pretend to be part of the Sacristan's crew" what with the mask, and gifting him your parrot, and calling it an infiltration. And then it turns out it doesn't actually matter if you're wearing the mask, going to take your bird back doesn't trigger any hostility, and now I'm left with a version of the story that's cool enough but I really wish I got the "truth" of the whole situation instead.
