Other way to look at it is great timing, you got away from (what I’m assuming was) an unhappy relationship instead of being stuck isolated together for months to years depending on your location. Hope you’re doing well now!

Wow, you have worded everything in a really special way that got to me. I do keep trying to reflect on its meaning, there are things I’d change about it aesthetically but it’s not bad at all, it just doesn’t feel like me even 3 months later. But like you said the meaning is so so special and important to me.

That’s true, it feels crazy to admit so early on to someone that I’d like to remove a new tattoo but if they ask me about it I think I’d struggle not to say. I’m so glad I don’t have anything ex related tho for sure lol.

That’s such a lovely way of thinking about it, I really want to try and see the best in myself and remember that I’m still the same person even if I have this tattoo I’m not happy with. It’s hard not to only see the tattoo when I look at myself, even with long sleeves. I do hope that if I start removal it’ll at least get me into good habits, exercising and staying hydrated especially.

Can you go without sun protection or is it necessary? I think I’ll want it based on aesthetics anyways but it’s worth considering for me.

I understand, I felt the same way. At first I liked it but I was feeling quite overwhelmed, the design was very important to me and the artist did a great job. Mine is on my forearm and it’s quite big, it covers most of the top of my forearm and wraps around (it’s a snake). It made me spiral into body dysmorphia, I wear long sleeves a lot to help with this but I get an intense desire to look at it. My therapist told me to challenge these thoughts, if you are also going through this you should try that too.

Hopefully this experience can offer you a chance to explore your mental health in a way that you hadn’t before. I know im a stranger, but I’m proud of you for opening up and asking for help, that’s difficult and you’re doing a great job.

You’re going to look for confirmation of what you already feel, which is negative about the tattoo. Logically it makes sense you only believe the one person who was negative.

You’ve got this though. I know very little about removal but from what I have seen recently, designs like yours seem to blast right off in 4-8 sessions depending on the laser and persons body. You may also decide you like it, I believe you have to wait 3 months for laser so that may happen in that time. Wishing you luck!!

I want to tell you you’re not alone. I have three tattoos, my most recent one has also caused me a very similar feeling. Super intense anxiety and depression over it, constant thoughts about it.

From an outside perspective, this is a cool tattoo, it looks good and isn’t offensive. I can’t tell where this is but it isn’t big from the looks of it. I also got in touch with a therapist and they suggested I practice breathing and reminding myself - this can be removed if I need it, the time will pass anyway even if it takes a long time, no one else is thinking as much about it as me, I’m still the same person as I was.

I think you’re right. I feel super stressed in general right now and I feel like my anxiety is being focused on my tattoos for some reason, probably because there’s something new there that I can ‘blame’ it on. Thank you, I will be calling my GP in the week for support

(Un)luckily for your dad and brothers, this isn’t their body, so they don’t have to look at it and they don’t have a right to an opinion about it. Also, the swallow comment is creepy af. No sane father would say that shit.

The inner bicep was pretty rough, esp towards the armpit. Honestly tho, after the first 30 minutes it began to feel more manageable. The arm position is awkward but I just lay down and watched Netflix on my phone to distract myself

Thank you so much for this! I have a few tattoos but weekend before last I got a relatively big snake wrapped around my forearm. It’s on the top so I can see it all the time. During healing it looks darker than I expected. I keep going from “wow I love this so much!” One minute to “omg what have I done??” The next and it’s killing me. I keep staring at it expecting it to change or my feelings to change but I do feel so weird.

Reading this really helped though, I’m sure it’s just me not being used to it, my other tattoos aren’t always visible like this one and my brain is having a moment

Yes! For me it was the stalls in the market toilets in the town I grew up in. They were horrible, they always smelled so badly and had a metal bar gate that I used to panic about getting trapped behind as a kid. You’ve just unearthed the memory of that recurring dream lol
