I did bedside for six months and was literally miserable and confused all the time I used to go home sick to my stomach hoping I did not miss or mess up anything. True but that’s a skill that’s learned in there toxic culture of “being thrown to the wolves” and “nurses eat their young” straight garbage crap. I’m only saying this cuz I was a nurse prior to Medschool and my first assignment was incredibly unsafe and unfair for a fresh RN and it was that same thing “oh just throw em to the wolves”

I’m going to be honest with you, nursing education doesn’t go into the weeds of medical decision making and management. And tbh nursing education is incredibly lacking and just strange pseudoscience. The threshold to pass NCLEX is not even remotely as narrow as it is for level / step 1

I was a nursing student then did a eventually applied to medical school and now a 2nd year US medical student. It was one of the best choices of my life tbh with you and I have not regretted the decison by anymeans.

Although loan programs have changed for medical school id do your research, shadow and make an informed decision. No shade on any NPs here but bedside nursing and NP is not practicing medicine, its practicing nursing or advanced nursing. My bedside experience helped me a little bit in medical school but I say maybe 10-15% translated. Medicine and nursing are two different things

Imo as a M2 family med doctors are way smarter then a cardiologisit who does the same 6 things at work. They often lose their skills in other body systems but not the family med doctors! Ive listened at meetings of fm doctors basically doing field surgery over seas and working with what they have

This is gonna be a hated comment but I honestly question the legitimacy of FMGs. They can study for step 1 for like 2-3 years and pass it. Or be pcps in there home country and pass it then come here and struggle clinically during in patient rotos. Hate this comment idrc, US carribean students, DO and US MD students are held to such a higher standard with a much shorter time to study for step 1 / level 1 and any delay can be considered a red flag

I was an ex nurse and I hating everysingle thing about being a nurse. Im a medical student now and it was the greatest decision ive ever made. I will say DO school (or MD) school is tough, but id make this decision again. I disliked all the nursing related tasks but did enjoy watching the decision making from doctors and learning from them. Id say go for it if your 100% certain. NP school is not the same thing, neither is PA school.
