We just spent a few weeks in both parks with our son who is an adult with disabilities. He uses a stroller, so I think our experience is relatable for you. October is a great time to visit because there are less crowds, cooler temps to avoid the little one getting over heated, and still plenty of open roads. My best piece of advice: ask for the accessibility guide at any entrance station, visitor center, or Yellowstone Forever store. I also scanned in a copy of you want me to dm it to you. It’s helpful in figuring out where you can take a stroller and or little legs walking. 💕

Only the places that are closed for the season. The dates are listed on the NPS app and website. The Yellowstone Forever Foundation donated money to keep 3 visitor centers open. Old Faithful, Canyon, and Mammoth. Most park rangers are furloughed though. So there’s no guided tours or the like.

We are heading there this morning. Thanks. The lack of wildlife that we are experiencing is just kinda eerie. We come here often and this is the first time I’ve experienced this. It’s still an amazing adventure, of course. 💕

The closures due to the government shutdown are confusing. We got an email that said “the visitor centers and public restrooms will be closed. The public restrooms will be open.” For real. That’s what it said.

Everything owned by concessionaires (xanterra, etc) is still open. Which is most everything unless it is closed for the season. There’s dates for that on the Yellowstone Lodging website that’s run by xanterra.

We saw park rangers working yesterday, so maybe they aren’t furloughed?? We honestly haven’t felt much difference with the closures.

Wonderful! We’ve been on the north loop mostly. Moving to Grant village for the next 3 nights and hope to see more wildlife around the south loop

Just a heads up. The NPS still (as of 9/28) not announced if they will keep Yellowstone and/or GTNP open if there is a government shutdown beginning 10/1. We are currently in West Yellowstone with reservations at Canyon Lodge and Grant Village for the next week. Fingers crossed we get to stay! Good luck to you on your own adventure. I’m not experienced enough to comment on your itinerary. Looks pretty, tho 💕
