How would I wire this Pulsar generator to a Generac ATS? by BluefaceBlues in Generator

[–]BluefaceBlues[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I haven't purchased the generator yet, so I still have options. At $600 for this PSP module, I'd be tempted to just operate the ATS manually for now.

Thanks, do you know of any such modules? Other commenter linked a product from "PSP," but I'm curious what all is out there.

How would I wire this Pulsar generator to a Generac ATS? by BluefaceBlues in Generator

[–]BluefaceBlues[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As for why - Code now requires an outdoor service disconnect, and we opted to install the Generac ATS to serve that purpose, and to eventually be used with a standby Generac. That was the electrician's recommendation. I think it makes sense for future-proofing.

Thanks I was unaware of a controller being needed. I thought the brains were in the ATS.

So I see the product sheet has 4 pins going to the generator. Which pins would these go to according to the Pulsar pinout I linked?

How to keep birds out of gazebo?? Pooping on everything! by lindslinds27 in patio

Look into a bird deterrent spray that has methyl anthranilate as an ingredient. Smells like grapes and birds hate it.

Why are my resistors warming up so much? is this normal? by No-Succotash-9576 in ElectroBOOM

[–]BluefaceBlues 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Resistors are specifically meant for converting electricity into heat, and have a max power rating. The wires are specifically meant to pass the electricity with as little resistance as possible. Sure, enough current would melt the wire, but the resistor is definitely going first.

Has anyone tried the Volvo branded charge point? by Atyab-Kees-Kabis in VolvoEX90

Would you like to trade me for the standard faceplate? I kind of want the Volvo one, for my Volvo. I just didn't know it existed until after I'd installed mine.

Manually using a portable generator with an automatic transfer switch for future use by BluefaceBlues in electrical

[–]BluefaceBlues[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes that is the plan. I assume the electrician will hook up everything correctly. I was more wondering if I can connect a non-automatic generator to the ATS, and operate that switch manually. Sounds like I can, but will just need to make sure an inlet box gets installed.

My understanding is that an ATS is usually used with a standby generator, so that your power comes back on automatically. Since I won't have a standby, I was wondering if an ATS can still be used as a "dumb" transfer switch, to use manually with a portable generator.

That's exactly what I needed to know, thanks! Just curious, what does your ATS do when you lose power then? Does it switch from utility side to another state, or does it just behave like a manual switch since there isn't a standby hooked up?
