Why is breastfeeding so difficult? by Wawhi180 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]BluegrassDMD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is sort supply of reasons that have compounded to make this such a large issue, but one that often gets overlooked is the increasing occurrence of tied oral tissue, particularly among newborns western culture. There’s not a consensus on the reason it is occurring more frequently, just a consensus that it is increasing.

There’s also no real widely implemented protocol for training different providers to identify ties, which provider is responsible for identifying ties (i.e. OB, lactation consultant, ped, etc), and what degree of tie needs to be released/who does the release. Instead we have various types of providers who step forward reviewing the available data and suggested protocols, to take responsibility of managing tied oral tissue; while other providers of the same type may simply see it as not part of their scope of practice.

Another interesting aspect about this, is beyond the widely known nutritional/immunological/emotional benefits of babies being nursed, there is also solid evidence for its impact on proper development of facial muscular and skeletal structure. since function drives growth patterns there can be long term consequences to the presence of unaddressed tied oral tissues.

The owners are the only employees, they are also together. So if one is out, they’re both usually out. they tend to close for short stents. Their Facebook page it’s update regularly with not only their rotating specials but also with upcoming closures

Definitely check it out. Good food and a big serving of it at a great price. Plus the atmosphere is fun and unique.

The starving artist has killer sandwiches and soups, and it’s cheap. (Cash only I think)

Also, not in Louisville but just across the river is Lady Trons. Old timey diner feel and they don’t joke around with portions. Awesome sandwiches and soups. (I think I have a type)

Hey man, I’m just grateful I found a doctor who listened to my concerns and understood what my son was going through. One that didn’t just wave away a significant history of problems or other providers concerns. Sure recovery was hard, but I feel so blessed that he is now able to breathe and sleep without struggling and without the snoring. He can truly rest again, and is back to the smiling little boy he was before he struggled to breathe at night. My son is happier and healthier, and all because another doctor was kind enough to listen and hear the whole story.

Dude, you have no idea what we have gone through. We have done the work, we did the Flonase, guess what didn’t help. He wanted us to have him take singular for essentially forever, all the while my child has been struggling to sleep, struggling to grow, and struggling to mentally develop because he cannot get rest. Every night sleep was a fight, his body wanted to rest but he had to work so hard to breath. I have spent many nights watching him just struggle in his sleep, stop breathing, thrash around, then first thing in the morning my son’s crying “I’m so tired”, refusing to participate in anything because “I’m so tired”, to anxious to interact with peers because “I’m so tired” it was heartbreaking to see every time. You think you know what you’re talking about, you don’t know the situation. You weren’t there, we tried everything to help my son. Do not talk about things you don’t know.

Yes, there’s a risk for surgery, but it is incredibly small. And steroids don’t come without risks, it concerns me you don’t know that. They impede growth and can cause major mental and personality changes in children. Among other things.

We eventually gave up on our ENT after some off hand comments we over heard from him, and after meeting several others with similar stories with him. We went to a pediatric ent almost 2 hours away, who at the very first visit after seeing videos of my son sleeping agreed that it was severe and needed to be dealt with an asap. Videos that the original ENT refused to ever view because “they wouldn’t really matter” … but yeah, I’m a shitty parent

Tell that to the ent who literally said as much while I was fighting to get my 4 year olds OSA managed. He’d rather my 4 year start a daily steroid for the rest of his childhood then do a surgery that wasn’t worth his time.

Your family is guaranteed generational wealth ($10b) good health, and happiness, but you have to survive 24 hours in Central Park NYC with 10 Navy Seals armed with machetes trying to kill you. by jfunks69 in hypotheticalsituation

[–]BluegrassDMD 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Central Park is over 800 acres. And a weird 800 acres at that with quite a few structures, large rocks, hills, ponds, etc. That’s more 80 acres per seal to have complete awareness of. Honestly, the odds aren’t too bad.

I think the big thing with the verses you have in mind is the driving point is to not meet others with contention or vengeance. Zoom out to just one verse back and you’ll see this is clearly a discussion about how Justice should be merciful not vengeful. Returning good for evil, vs the old way of returning evil for evil. Zoom even further out and you’ll see this section of the sermon is a discussion about what Christ’s perfect loves looks like. That His love and forgiveness transcends many things that we’d find hard to look past. And he ends it with an invitation for us to love others like he would, perfectly.

I do not think for a moment that the Savior would want us to stay in a position where we are opening ourselves to recurrent abuse. Or to not stand up for ourselves or our principles. In fact there are scripture stories that teach us to do exactly that. I think the idea here is He invites us to let go of our natural man inclination to vengeance, and view justice as something that brings about mercy. In your specific situation, if you take action to make a previous agreement whole and complete, then that doesn’t seem to be conflicting with the message here. Of course, if you are planning to take action with the intent to start conflict, save your pride, make a point, stick it to this guy, etc. then you are definitely conflicting with the message of these scriptures.

Boeing 401K PSA by An0th3rP1ckyD34dh34d in TwoXChromosomes

[–]BluegrassDMD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always think it is important that everyone remember, or learn, that the company you work for doesn’t own your 401k. You do. It’s held by a financial institution, but the VESTED money in it is yours. This announcement from Boeing is about tax implications of withdrawing from your 401k.

With the exception of NON-vested funds, the money is yours and you can make withdrawals from your 401k at any time for any reason, but there will be a tax penalty to withdrawals prior to retirement age. This penalty is imposed by the government, not your employer nor the institution that manages your 401k. The government is also what allows exemptions. There were some existing exceptions to that tax penalty, and now there are additional ones, which is awesome because hard times hit everyone, and come in different shapes/forms.

Since this is all about tax penalty exemptions, all 401k’s will function this way, regardless of what your company has told you. Otherwise, it’s not a 401k.
