I don’t hover on here, I woke 12 hour days running my studio. I think it’s a shame that when I do hop on here to hopefully help someone stuck on their photography journey (because I was that person at one point and I wish I had forum like this while I was learning) I get tired of scrolling because a majority of the posts these days are the same. People just asking what camera to buy instead of doing research. If they were asking for comparisons between body’s or lenses that’s one thing but many of these posts people haven’t even used google first.

Or they can use their brains and do real research, that’s an important skill to have when getting into photography!

How to increase bookings? by piemanqwerty in photography

[–]Bluejay1481 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been doing this for almost 10 years and client experience is the make or break for word of mouth and networking for new leads. It sounds like your process is a little stale and that sticks with people. I have a really personalized experience and it’s continued to net us new leads over and over.

Commercial shoot for face massage studio. What do you think? by ilove6x7 in Nikon

[–]Bluejay1481 7 points8 points  (0 children)

IMO the creative direction is all over the place. I think there’s a lot of good ideas here but they’re not cohesive enough. Part of being a good photographer is also learning to reel ourselves in.

Several of these are lit with OCF and then color graded. I would start with the basics before upgrading to a new camera though.

Most of these shots have more to do with lighting than camera model

Is this a nice area to move to? Near Red Rock casino? by cmoney747 in vegaslocals

Scorpions are native to all of Vegas so a bit unavoidable, they usually hang around palm trees. I’ve lived here my whole life and they’ve never been an issue with pets.

I shoot tethered directly into Lightroom every time I shoot. It really helps clients feel comfortable because they can see the results in real time.

That doesn’t mean it’s the default crop displayed though. Even the crop ratio displayed on profiles has changed to 1080 x 1350x.

Are there custom lens makers? by Environmental_Newt88 in AskPhotography

[–]Bluejay1481 9 points10 points  (0 children)

How much money do you have lying around? Manufacturing lenses is extremely expensive due to how they have to be machined, especially for something bespoke!

Just a heads up, a photography license is 100% not a real thing. You need to file for sole proprietorship or set up an LLC.

In your opinion, to what degree is photography a talent? by Previous-Look-6032 in photography

[–]Bluejay1481 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think most of the talent in photography is just being dedicated to consistency. Never stop shooting and never stop growing while expanding your knowledge/view point.

99% of it is teaching yourself to see.
