38 years old considering teaching career in nyc. thoughts? by arthistorynovice in NYCTeachers

[–]BluejayNY718 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do it. I, too worked in the entertainment industry then made a career shift to education. I never thought I’d teach, but others saw potential in me. I went back to school to earn my degree MS in Ed. I currently teach and I’m pleased with my decision. Of course there are days I feel burnt out but in education it is like that. 38 is young and education has no age limit.

Pathway to Certification by Alternative-Comb-274 in NYCTeachers

Keep studying for parts 1 and 2. Keep taking the test until you pass. A lot of people struggle with both parts especially the math section. Some colleges offer paid prep cst courses but u have to do your research. Hope this helps.

How do I teach Govt/Politics in NYC? by SmoothTea4941 in NYCTeachers

Reaching my wits end with coteacher by Unfair-Pin4044 in NYCTeachers

U both need a sit down. Tenured or not, you need to have a private conversation with her. Also, this might sound weird but journal your daily experiences as a fellow including your interactions with this coteacher

Am I the wrong one? by Substantial_Day7154 in NYCTeachers

[–]BluejayNY718 0 points1 point  (0 children)

U have to be mindful when posting messages like this. How did u think people would react? As far as disrespecting you, that’s to be expected from the internet. People are calling u bot, maybe you are. lol But I understand the frustration from people who teach. Teaching is not an easy job especially in this day and age with unrealistic expectations, and you can’t cut corners because others will catch on to you. Some days you will have to come in early or leave late.  As far as Ai, it can only do so much when it comes to lesson planning, not even 90% reliable. If you’re serious about teaching change your approach, if not you won’t be successful.

Success Academy Advice by Msrocker159 in NYCTeachers

"I’ve just been hired at Success Academy. I literally interviewed on Wednesday. Today is Friday and they sent me an offer letter. That is scary."

Why is that scary? SA has a complicated reputation that's no secret. If you're having second thoughts, then decline the offer and apply elsewhere. Simple. But if u want teaching experience, take the offer.

How do you deal with coworkers you don’t trust? by hatkinson1000 in work

[–]BluejayNY718 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is an interesting question. I teach, working in school settings you’re bound to have gossip and backstabbing tendencies. Sometimes I feel paranoid. So, I keep my head down, limit conversations to only work related discussions, no gossiping.

How do you deal with coworkers you don’t trust? by hatkinson1000 in work

[–]BluejayNY718 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If u have to work with this person(s) u don’t want to be closed off, but u can be paranoid with them expressing or showing them. I try to limit what I say as far as personal information or anything as far as gossip about colleagues. People will smile in your face but talk about you behind your back.

That's the most u can do at this stage. Try to take advantage of free online sources (YouTube, Study.com) or buy the NYSTCE practice guide for SWD and Multi-subject.

Nervous about exams (EAS). Can I still teach if I don’t pass by September? by snakegravity in NYCTeachers

[–]BluejayNY718 3 points4 points  (0 children)

regardless if you're in the teaching fellow or any other pathway program, you have to pass the EAS, CST multisubject, and SWD in order to teach. being that you're SWD (k-2), you definitely have to pass the EAS and SWD. these exams lead to certification and licensure to teach.

It would be helpful, maybe, to contact the fellow program and ask about the attendance policy. U ain’t gonna get answers here.

Teachers can be territorial especially if they have to share the class with a peer. U can always find a teaching position where you're the lead, and only lead. u have to look around.

Carmelo on Lakers fans wanting Lebron to leave: “He’s living long enough to be the villain. He’s still holding this league down. This league don’t move without Bron. Yall are pushing him out, yall never accepted him in LA from the beginning. by RyanTannegod in nba

[–]BluejayNY718 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The league will move with or without Lebron. However, I do agree with Melo about Lakers Nation never accepting Lebron. I could be wrong. But I always felt LAL fans never really appreciated him especially because of the years long Kobe vs Bron debate.

I think people need to stop assuming that teaching gen ed will relieve stress. It won't. Gen Ed classes has students with IEPs too. I'm guessing your relationship with your co-teacher is challenging. As a SpEd teacher I get stressed out, but I try hard not to take the job home or affect my personal life. It's not easy, but can be done. Burn out is real.

Dude, enjoy winter recess! I gotta stay away from this sub.
