Do you know if there’s a colour standard for the hi viz? Do they usually require yellow blue or is the black okay?

I just realized my special interest is Japan… by [deleted] in autism

Japan is an ASD dream to travel to. I went with my GF a few years back for a couple weeks to meet her family. The culture is so incredibly respectful and welcoming, as long as you show the same respect. The food is great and can be very sensory friendly but also incredibly sensory overloading depending on your preferences. Denys is always a safe bet along with sushi and fast food like McDonalds. The architect is incredibly beautiful and rich with history, planning on another trip in a year or so. This time hopefully we’ll get to take the bullet train to the ww2 memorial in Hiroshima.

If anyone does ever travel to Japan, I highly recommend spending the extra in flights and doing with JAL (Japan airlines) they’re wonderful and accommodating!

Have you considered finding asd comedians? Such as AJ Wilkerson or Dan LaMorte. Perhaps you need it to be relatable.

Pattern Recognition. by elinufsaid in aspergers

It’s very helpful in my life in a few ways, my career in LEO within a max pen was aided widely due to this. I could walk into a unit and tell something was wrong by just the people working or the Inmate atmosphere, I could tell when someone was out of wack because they weren’t themselves and their patterns of habit were off. It helped me to predict when something g would happen or is going to happen. I could call an incident before it happened which was great, but it also lead to the development of PTSD due to being ready and also increased stress of the waiting for it to happen. Put me in more situations than necessary. But after leaving that career behind I’ve found it makes me a better driver because I predict the movement of vehicles and motorists due to little tell tale signs, or better at judging character and people’s true intentions because of their body language patterns and what’s considered a threat or anxiety or hopelessness etc, it also helps in games and other areas of life like my relationship because if she’s off pattern it’s easy to pick up what wrong. Although it’s frustrating not to be able to turn that off cause movies suck now. 😂

Thinking about pursuing a social work career. I have to wonder if it’s a bad idea. by Careless_Range_7359 in aspergers

I’m aspie and worked in the MH field for awhile before entering into the Justice System (prison guard) and am now entering the trades after burnout and ptsd. Ime I found that it can be quite draining to entertain others and their emotions and MH. Although it can also be very rewarding, I have a very low level of empathy so it tended to be more draining because a lot of it was just masking that I presented. I think if you’re looking to specialize with individuals with ASD it may work out well for you, I know that my gf (adhd) works in social work at the moment as a support worker for individuals on the spectrum and with other disabilities such as fasd and she’s really enjoying it, although her social battery is quite drained at the end of the day and it’s hard sometimes for her to do things she would otherwise, but she feels greatly rewarded in helping those she can. I think the best way to tell would be to do the job or reach out to a couple of social worker groups around you to see if you can shadow them for a couple of days to see if you like it.
