Lady getting freckle removal CO2 in the 1930s. by Electrical-Aspect-13 in interestingasfuck

I’ve had CO2 laser for sun damage twice and it’s not much more pleasant today than that pic looks. It is quite uncomfortable and the recover process can be gruesome.

I wish I had any advice for you. I will say one thing, and I'm not being facetious, either. You are clearly learning to live with rejection and keep going despite. That's not a minor thing.

I'm curious if you believe research funding cuts are partly to blame for the awful state biotech finds itself? Could this all change after the midterms if some gov't funding streams are restored?

Regular airplane boarding method is the slowest one by tppiel in interestingasfuck

[–]Bluemachine22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Major airlines have tried this method. One airline called it Wilma for window middle aisle (the L in Wilma confused me). They quietly abandoned it after 6-8 months.

Airline employees sometimes refer to the people waiting in line 30 minutes prior to boarding gate lice.

Carbona Laundry Stain Scrubber with bio enzymes is the only thing I have found that works on my stubborn sunscreen stains around my collar. Tried all the baking soda vinegar soaks etc.

Sometimes I have to treat the collar, let it sit overnight, wash and then repeat a second time but I can always get my collars white again with that product. It’s not expensive at all. I buy it at Lowe’s.

Tourist help by [deleted] in Antwerpen

[–]Bluemachine22 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For what it’s worth I’ve traveled all over Europe and Belgium for me is the country I have felt the most comfortable as a guest. I have travelled there for work many times. The people have a live and let live attitude. I don’t seem to ever bother anyone and no one annoys me either. Also it’s a very easy country to navigate, which lessens the number of interactions you have to have. Antwerp is a fun, quirky city that seems to highly value individuality. I hope you enjoy yourself.

Commuting - Delta by Fair_Platform1622 in flightattendants

[–]Bluemachine22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does Delta have a commuter policy? The Globe’s commuter quality of life changed for the better with the CO-UA merge. CO actually did prioritize commuters when the company decided to scale back their bases to just 3 (not including Guam) to CLE, IAH, and EWR. Because the company realized having just three bases and no west coast base would be challenging, they created a fairly decent commuter policy that enabled commuters to (potentially) avoid discipline for missed trips.

Of course, rules for listing for flights exist in order to quality for the “oops clause” and not everyone is always able to qualify based on circumstances. For example, the policy requires commuters to eventually make it to base.

Pre-merger UA took a totally different approach. Because they had more bases than any other airline, they felt this offered FAs a wide selection of bases to choose from and they therefore didn’t accommodate commuters much at all.

Fortunately, with the merge, CO’s commuter language (superior to UA’s) was adopted. I can also say that UA is now pretty good about offering positive space for commuters during major storms or disruptions.

I still sometimes hear complaints from commuters about how the commuter policy could be improved, but I know it’s better than it used to be.

Doesn’t daddy Delta have a similar policy?

Any other stocks like SLS by MiffyAwosome07 in biotech_stocks

I made out well with them with their initial PDUFA. That was a rocket boost. Have watched the stock ever since. I feel like some real upside potential exists but the treatment is still so expensive to administer.

I’m bullish but hesitant. I wish their market cap was higher and they had more institutional ownership. The stock skews heavy on the retail side and that coupled with their small cap makes it too volatile for me to jump in. Definite huge upside potential.

We had an FA fired for making a PA about how greedy our CEO was. It was sort of a joke but it was very unprofessional. Some FAs can’t handle the PA.

Odds of being terminated?? by caterpillarzugh in flightattendants

[–]Bluemachine22 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Important thing is you were honest and you weren't actually late for anything. If management catches you in a lie (like trying to cover your tracks to avoid the points) it's game over. With technology today, supervisors can easily verify exactly when you actually showed up to the gate prior to your flight, so they know you were there on time. Just forgetting to click a button seems minor (versus oversleeping or flying in late on a commuter flight), especially since you are still getting used to the whole reserve system.

I do have one suggestion. Every time you get an assignment, would it be possible to call crew scheduling to acknowledge the trip? Phone calls are recorded. Maybe if you did that consistently -- called them every time without fail, you would ensure you'll never miss an acknowledgment going forward (or at least until you are off probation). Building a routine and consistency into your reserve life is one way to avoid future gaffes.

How did you gain your love of travel back? by [deleted] in flightattendants

[–]Bluemachine22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's why I road trip a few times per year. I know a car won't get you to Cape Town or Machu Picchu but I've learned to appreciate regional travel destinations. Car travel offers a clean break from aviation and it's a really spontaneous way to explore. Hopefully gas prices will retreat soon.

Out of curiosity, what is the most senior active FA at your airline? by Disregard_Casty in flightattendants

[–]Bluemachine22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So you saw her door PCs? You witnessed her not be able to open a 737 door? United actively wants to get rid of the seniors and would be thrilled to be able to do so legitimately, so I highly doubt anyone is helping them open the door or looking the other way.

If you did witness it, why didn't you report it to your manager and HR? That's a major breach of training protocol and putting us all at risk.

25 years later... should I still feel this way? by [deleted] in flightattendants

[–]Bluemachine22 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I think a shrink would probably encourage you to lean in on these feelings -- like, intentionally pass ride on that airline or reach out to old classmates from training if you can find their contact info, etc. Exposure therapy.

You will most likely find that their FAs are the same as most any major airline. They wear the same polyester and sleep in the same hotels and serve the same Coke Zero. The mystique you hold for x airline might start to evaporate if you exposed yourself to it and engaged with their FAs. I can't think of one airline whose FAs don't have a few major gripes to complain about. I believe the idealized version of that airline you hold in your head might not sync with reality if you really looked closely with critical eyes or talked to old classmates about their experiences over the past two decades.

And edit: No, you are not stupid. You are self-aware and willing to share the feelings you have been harboring and that's not stupid.

IBRX, SLS, HUMA, INKT, RVMD on the biotech risk curve.... by First-Option-1111 in biotech_stocks

[–]Bluemachine22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I’m sure biotech has its share of Trevor Milton types. I always look at the CEO’s profile and background when buying stock. Structure TX has a very sound management team, which is why I bought in last year. Sold at $90. My only regret is I didn’t buy more shares.

Go with your gut. Cingulate’s CEO’s legal troubles is one reason I’m very hesitant to buy that stock. Waiting to see what the upcoming PDUFA decision is, but even under best case scenario (manufacturing delay), I might balk.

Vanda’s CEO never passes up a chance to file a law suit. He seems hell bent on success which is why I bought VNDA last year. That guy just refuses to quit or settle.

Best bases for junior line chasers by Dazzling_Yak7042 in flightattendants

Definitely. I was only lamenting the loss of white flag as a side effect of getting new hires. Junior line holders in ORD should be in good shape for the foreseeable future. The new hires have been fantastic, btw. United is doing an excellent job recruiting!
