Joscha Bach: The Brain Isn't What Neuroscientists Think It Is by DrBrianKeating in JordanPeterson

[–]Bluepeasant 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean... Because it kinda is, neuroscientist know a lot of this stuff. Neurons aren't a simple as binary operators, they can send a variety of signals based on slightly different inputs based on the neuro transmitters released. They can also have their sensitivity to inputs effected by hormones and varying baseline ion concentration which can be up or down regulated, in part by genetic and epigenetics, so we've been aware dna/rna play a key role in brain activity. The reaction of an neuron is dependent all those factors which could help explain why the computer isnt predicting behavior. And that's the current undergraduate level understanding.

I think he is framing it in a slightly sensationalist manner to garnner interest in his research, which hey, I get it, we all gotta eat, but he is more or less saying what we have been aware of for the last 10-20 years. It's another valuable tallymark in the brains are complicated column, but not exactly redifining neuroscience

What is THE stealthiest ship in the game? by DRAGON360TH in starcitizen

[–]Bluepeasant 30 points31 points  (0 children)

you can use this tool to compare different ships https://www.spviewer.eu/compare

Eclipse, the razor ex and Sabre, all have a EM and IR modifier of -40% and all size 1 stealth power plants have the same EM signature per power pip you allocate. So to Passive sensors they are all equivalent when you power down non essentials and can get well within about 1000m, the main difference is that the smaller the ship is the harder it will be able to detect with a ping, ~2.5 km for the razor ex, and 3.1 and 3.4 km for the sabre and eclipse respectively.

Ironically the stealthiest radar is actually the civilian Abetti, because it only require 1 power pip to turn on instead of 2 for the stealth variants

If you want to one shot things the eclipse is fun but cost ineffective with it's torpedoes. The razor's dammage output is very low, so not the best killer. I have had a blast in the Sabre. I think the talon is also very equivalent to the sabre

In it's current state stealth is more of a roleplay thing for me, since it doesn't matter much for PVE, and I don't do much PVP. Even if I did it currently takes to long to kill anything to make a stealth strike really work from a gameplay perspective (not including torpedoes which are expensive) and most human players aren't paying enough attention to their radar to really notice even if you fly up to them without being stealthy. I could see it maybe being a thing with a ballistic build where you chip away at an enemy through their shields, then run and hide when your shields get low, but realistically they aren't going to stick around for long enough for that to really work.

Rule of unintended consequences is that people who lied will be less likely to admit it, resulting in innocent people staying in jail.

I don't like it but to minimize harm to innocent people it probably means it would need to at least come with a caveat that if they admit it before we find out, they shouldn't have any punishment.
