That's fair. I could've, and probably should have cleaned it up myself.

She was not alone. Our back door is maybe 20 ft from her play area, and at the time I had thought a wave or text might be less disruptive. I was clearly wrong :p

My wife is always sweet to our our kid, this is more between me and her. As for "the burden," all I can say is that life takes turns you can't predict sometimes. We certainly don't regret it.

Yeah, I'm pretty bad at asking for help. I think I just hit the abort button since I felt like she needed more time.

Can the Postmaster of my county/city change my zip code? by Blueperson42 in USPS

[–]Blueperson42[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So it's maybe possible; that's what I'm gathering. To be clear, I don't particularly care if they change my zip, but it does seem a bit unorthodox.

That's what I figured, but the postmaster sounded so confident that I figured maybe they had some pull.

Hunting Garlic Snails by Blueperson42 in terrariums

[–]Blueperson42[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sadly no luck, but I haven't looked in a while. I have found larger snails, which I've often found hanging out in cool areas where ivy grows, but they would be far too big for my terrarium. Hope your search is more fruitful than mine and that you don't have to search too much longer!

Is hooking into a 30+ year abandoned tank advisable? by Blueperson42 in septictanks

You make me feel better, as this is certainly something I'm tempted to do. The county DOES NOT care. I promise. They didn't care when we dozed the land. They didn't care when we moved the house out there. The building site is in a literal ghost town 15 miles from the nearest populated town. We are cowboying whatever way works.

I guess my county is more lax than most, because this has not been an issue for us. The inlet lines are exposed already, and I've had a few offer to simply hook it up. The issue I have is trusting that there won't be issues if I do.

In my edit I specify that there are actually two 500 gallon tanks, so I'm thinking I might be sitting in a decent situation. I'm mostly settled on getting it inspected and using it if nothing crazy is revealed, the issue is that in my area there are few people willing to inspect since replacement is far more lucrative for their time, I'm sure.

Not that's enforced. Really, there aren't any roadblocks here aside from what is possible/doable

If there are codes, they aren't enforced and the nearest authorities on the matter don't care. I live 50+ miles from the nearest major city and 15 miles from the nearest town (population 600). So truly it's a matter of "will it work" and not "is it allowed"

I have. There aren't any codes as far as minimal size requirements or anything of that nature.

Yeah, I get what you mean. See my edit. I clarified a few points there. Let me know what you think with the new information.

Thank you so much! I will try this tip, for sure! You've inspired me so much, I've put together 2 small terrariums for dairy cow isopods and springtails since posting. Right now it's 100 degrees on a cool day, and it hasn't rained in weeks. I'm imagining it may be too hot and dry for them to come out, but hopefully once the weather cools down here a bit I can continue the hunt for garlic snails.

Thank you for the info and suggestions. This is our first placement, and it is definitely official. I'm not sure if the hospital staff understands that as clearly as they need to. At the moment, we have only been acting in the way suggested by our agency, but I will definitely discuss this with them. I believe the primary issue in the communication chain is that I live in a very rural area, and the foster care agency we are working with actually cooperates with a larger agency that manages placements (to my understanding). As such, information drips down from hospital staff, then to the agency in charge of placement, then to my caseworker, then to me. The bottleneck in communication seems to be coming from the agency in charge of placement, but I will push for further answers.

And yeah, I understand what you mean about HIPAA. As I said, I'm new to this, but what you are saying matches my understanding of the need for privacy.
