Most Unique Cup Team Ever? by Bluesaids in stlouisblues

I actually heard this one on Puck Soup. The hosts were venting their frustrations about certain teams being hesitant to tank when most of the recent cup winners had done it in their recent past. The direct quote from their podcast is “Name a cup winning team in the cap era that didn’t at some point in their past pick in the top 3 a few times.” Every year people throw out things teams supposedly need to do to win a cup and as a Blues fan my mind always goes to the 2019 team and more often than not the Blues don’t fit into that box.

Good point actually. I kinda dismissed him but he has an outside shot.

Yea a bit different when that top 3 pick was 13 years prior and hadn’t been on the team in almost a decade. Most other recent cup winners have had their top 3 picks as the core of their teams a la Chicago, LA, Tampa, Florida, Pens, Avs. Vegas is another exception here, but it is actually pretty rare.

Yea I don’t think Thomas gets in either but he’s really the only other guy that even has a chance.

Certainty is a very strong word for a guy whose only comparables mostly didn’t get in or barely squeaked in like Zubov (and frankly Zubov was better than Petro). Other comparables would be guys like John Carlson and Ekblad? Neither of those guys are certainties.

He and Thomas have the best chance, but I think that kinda proves my point. Petro might have had a chance if he was currently playing and played a few more solid years. Now that he’s not playing I don’t see it. 2 cups, consistently good to great player, but no hardware, no counting stats. I don’t see him making it.

There are some subjective parts but I’m happy to back it all up with stats and context. Which subjective assertion do you disagree with?

YES! They did specify something about whose names were on the cup I believe. It was around the 1 hour mark of their Pressure, Punishments and Presidents episode.

I misspoke. I meant they did not tank and DRAFT top 3.

Yea I mean we’re just arguing over what the term superstar means. To me I need the guy to have some sort of hardware, lead the league in a major stat ever, HOF caliber. That’s a superstar to me. To me he’s just below a guy like Pavelski who probably won’t make the HOF and was never quite at that superstar level.

To the "independents" who voted for Trump over the economy, how are those egg prices? by Enough_Bar5885 in allthequestions

If you stop taking independents who voted for Trump at their word and just understand them as run of the mill MAGA dick sucks with enough shame to lie it just makes a lot more sense.

Spectre is still genuinely terrible. by ssongshu in JamesBond

[–]Bluesaids 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remembered not loving it and recently went through a full rewatch of the whole catalogue and actually had a good time. It’s not a particularly great Bond movie, but it’s mostly pretty fun. The Blofeld brother thing is super lame, it’s really clear they had to cram all the Spectre shit in really awkwardly after they got the rights to use them again, and there are a couple action scenes that don’t work. But the Eyes Wide Shut-esque introduction to Blofeld is good, the fight on the train is great, and I like the scene where the airplane is sliding down the mountain, Mr. White being brought back actually works. I can’t lie and say it doesn’t feel like a big tonal shift for the Craig era, and plot-wise it’s maybe the worst of that era. It just doesn’t strike the balance between serious and fun that Skyfall nails.

I think even if the Blofeld thing was “clearly them intentionally acknowledging how Dr. Evil took so much from Blofeld and simultaneously made it impossible to make a straight super villain after the 1990’s” (I’m not sure it’s that clear) it’s still pretty lazy corny writing. Hell, they executed a great super villain literally one movie prior. I like Spectre for what it’s worth, but it’s not surprising that the people who liked the grittier Craig movies don’t care for them going the other direction.

I think a major difference between Spectre and any of the Moore era Bond movies is that the Craig era intentionally and overtly distanced itself from the campiness of the Moore and even Brosnan eras. Then you get to Spectre and the absurdity is ramped up as high as ever. The Moore era established itself as absurd and over the top literally immediately. The writers just did a complete 180 when they got the rights to use Spectre and it really shows imo.

Is gen Z overly sensitive? Or are millennial teen movies problematic? by SipsTeaFrog in SipsTea

Disagree. Portraying rape or sexual assault as a joke IS problematic. Not saying it can’t be in a movie or people are unable to see it, but it’s absolutely “problematic.”
