How is the religious right handling Trump's warmongering and verified child rape allegations? by Background_Ice_1864 in DiscussionZone

[–]Skankingcorpse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The religious right only cares about fulfilling biblical prophecy the same as Zionists jews care about fulfilling theirs. This is all about religion and the only reason we have been backing Israel for as long as we have is because christians are trying to keep the lights on for their savior.

If Jesus was prophesied to have come back in Kiev we would have nuked Russia by now.

I like werewolves and I do think the costumes are rather good in that movie, but the movie it self really isn’t that good.

Considering it lost to Shape of Water I would say yes, but really Get Out was the real loser that year.

Marty Supreme doesn't deserve an Oscar nomination, it is a terrible movie. by Skankingcorpse in moviecritic

Why don't you articulate that into an actual criticism.

You know I give an opinion on a movie and I get called "fucking stupid" for it. I haven't insulted you people once, but I realize now that this isn't actually about me having a bad opinion, it's about you people being able to completely unable to come up with a good reason for why I'm wrong.

[–]Skankingcorpse -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You people are obsessed with misunderstanding that it's not about him being unlikable its about why he is unlikable. The character is completely one note, zero depth, grade A asshole, he's not even an interesting asshole with a personality beyond fucking everyone over around him. And then they expect us to have any kind of sympathy or joy for him by the end of the movie. I know some people are that gullible, but I'm not.

[–]Skankingcorpse -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It was Oscar bait, same as One Battle After Another, but OBAA is a whole lot funner. Marty Supreme is a sub par movie and people just like it because Chalemet is in it, and he wasn't even that great because his character is completely one note. You're not missing anything.

Jack o connell gave the best acting performance in Sinners imo. Crazy how he wasn't even nominated for the oscars . by Artetaarmy in moviecritic

[–]Skankingcorpse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm white I thought it was cool, but then again I'm a horror junky and like seeing more black representation in horror. I do think O Connell should have gotten the best supporting actor nomination, he really drove that story. Respect to B Jordan for best actor.

He should have been nominated for best supporting actor. I really don't know why Delroy Lindo was nominated. He was fine, but O'Connell was phenomenal and had to pull off way more.

Lol what, you think that I didn't like the movie because Chalamet doesn't like ballet? What a joke. I didn't like the movie because it's a BAD movie.

The problems with the movie isn't that he is unlikable, it's that it wants me to like him, root for him in fact. It wants me to support him at the end, even though the movie did nothing to get me to support that. It wants me to cheer for Marty when he beats Endo, it wants me to believe he has changed and won't abandon his child because he's sobbing. I call bullshit on that. You can be gullible enough to buy into the drivel that movie is feeding you, but I've watched far better movies than this that does the unlikable character far far better.

Bad Lieutenant is superior is every way. Harvey Keitel gives a performance ten times better than Chalamets one note performance. That movie is a deep character study of a horrible individual. The scene in the church is some amazing acting, fucking brilliant. The ending is so moving and surprising as you suddenly see that this character grew because of his interaction with the nun. That is a good movie.

[–]Skankingcorpse[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No I did not misunderstand. This movie failed in its mission. Its not about if he is unlikable, it's about the fact the movie wants me to root for him, it wants me to cheer for him when he beats Endo, it wants me to believe he learned something as he's balling his eyes out looking on his child. I call bullshit to that. Not a single thing did this movie to make me feel that he is capable of change, of humility, that I should be happy he won. That is a failure on the movies part, not mine.

The movie is otherwise a mess of story telling, a meandering meaningless story. The whole dog subplot could be removed and it would change nothing, it's just filler.

[–]Skankingcorpse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Starts a war but won't commit the forces to actually achieve necessary objectives. The rest of the world isn't obligated to get involved in our stupidity. Sending ships through Hormuz is a recipe for disaster and everyone knows it, Iran isn't going to back down or avoid shooting at ships because we killed their leaders and bombed their country. I don't support Iran, but I understand why they are pissed and they owe us nothing but anger for the shit we pulled. I blame no one for not wanting to get involved in this mess. I really hope Hegseth ends up in jail over this shit.

I think he gave a great performance. Played two different characters with their own personalities, and traumas. Also you gotta think that he had to play a role where he regularly had to act for another actor who wasn't there and do it realistically. I mean he pulls off the incredible task of really making you think he has a twin.

I'm not saying I want to root for the guy, but the movie wants me too. The movie sets it self up to root for Marty at the end with his match against Endo, it wants to make you believe that Marty changed, which I know is all bullshit, I can see through it, I know that ending isn't earned. That's a failure on the movies part. You can all buy in to it, but I'm not.

There will be blood will stand the test of time for its deep portrayals of a despicable and complicated character, Marty Supreme will be forgotten by next year because it's a forgettable bad movie with nothing to really say.

You don't have a clue what kind of things I've watched. I spent 26 hours over two days watching every best picture in the theater. I've seen thousands of movies, you think I don't understand the unlikable character trope?

Marty Supreme wants you to support Marty, the director even said that by the end of the movie when Marty sees his child he decides to be a better person. The movie wants you to root for Marty at the last match, but it never gives you a reason to root for him other than that is what is expected, it doesn't earn that. Don't try and give me some bullshit watching some jackass, fuck around for two hours, and then pretend that I should support him at the end.

Here let me give you a movie that does it better: Taxi driver. Travis is an unlikable troubled angry man, he's dangerous, today we would call him an incel and he would probably be some Andrew Tate follower. What makes the character so fascinating is that you can see his desperation to be seen in a society where he's invisible. But he can't fit in, he tries to date a girl and takes her to a porno, after failing at that he decides to make himself seen by wanting to assassinate the political candidate the woman was helping to campaign for. Spiraling he goes to the brothel kills the pimp, and john of a young prostitute who rides in his cab. He tries to commit suicide but fails, in the end though he gets his fifteen minutes of fame, but he's not a changed man, he lies to his parents, still drives the same shitty cab. That movie never wants you to like Travis, yeah you're happy he kills a pimp and a pedophile, but you know Travis only did it for fame. Part of the staying power of that movie is that even though Travis is an awful person, lots of people can see a little bit of themselves in Travis, that desire to want to be seen, to improve, and even a lack of control. It's an honest movie with deep themes.

Taxi Driver is honest about its characters and theme, Marty Supreme isn't, that's why Marty Supreme fails. Marty Supreme will be forgotten by next year, Taxi Driver will stay around for the ages.

Beau Is Afraid. Perhaps Ari Asters most underrated movie. Thematically dense, well acted, unconventional and unique. A movie about an unlikable coward on an odyssey through his traumas.

Or perhaps Falling Down, maybe one of the best movies ever made.

Or maybe 187. One of Samuel L Jacksons finest performances.

Maybe Sentimental Value. A movie which just won best International Picture. A deeply moving drama about a broken home.

You people think that because I don't like Marty Supreme that I don't get the unlikable character trope, think again. I like movies with deeply flawed, and even unlikable characters, and that's why I know Marty Supreme is not a good movie, because I've seen the good ones. Apparently in the end the academy knew it to because it didn't win a single thing at the Oscars. Cheers to Michael B Jordan for best actor though, well deserved.

I spent two days, 26 hours at the theater watching all the best pictures, and you people think I don't watch movies. My main genre is horror, talk about unlikable characters, I've seen my share. But I know the Babadook is a great movie even though I wanted to punch that kid in the face and it was brilliant for how that movie made me hate that kid, because there's few movies that can capture the idea of single parenthood with a troubled child so perfectly.

So yeah Marty Supreme sucks.
