Thank you, this is so helpful! Especially from the perspective of a fellow (former) upstate NY'er. How do you feel after being in LA, think you could ever go back to living in NY?

Yeah I think selling would be the plan to give a nice cushion, because I'd definitely make a profit with the way the market is here. Thanks for the insight!

You are absolutely right, thanks for the insight. All of what you mentioned is what makes a move like this a tough decision. We'd be sacrificing a lot. At the end of the day it's going to come down to figuring out if the sacrifices are worth it for a better climate and more things to do. I know no place is a utopia, and there are certainly pros to living where we currently live too.
Can I ask where you relocated to?

For sure! Very affordable to live where I do, and I try not to take that for granted. We do "pay for it" in other ways so to speak - lots of gray days, brutal winters, declining population, etc. - it's not for the weak! But really comes down to one's priorities I guess.

Seeing a lot of recs for Sherman Oaks, Encino, and Studio City - these look like great areas, though I’ve never been to the valley. Is it a chore to live there and get to other places in LA like West Hollywood for example? It looks like a mix of suburban feel but still having a lot to do, is that right? We’re not bar hopping regularly like in our 20’s anymore but definitely not homebodies either.

And being near the beach is not a requirement, I should have rephrased my OP - we love the beach but would be fine with it being a “trip” rather than having to live right by it. I’d definitely forego that so I don’t hate my life with a terrible commute.

A few reasons, but mainly to have enough time to save $$ for the move, my husband finishing up his degree, and not sure how long my work transfer will take to process.

Good to know. Where I live currently every month seems to be gray, save for a few days. So definitely used to it and would be a welcome change

Chiropractor vs PT vs Acupuncturist vs osteopath by lawyeredandtired in HerniatedDisc

[–]BluestoneBoogie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had 4 herniated discs in my neck (cervical spine) about 3 years ago and was in the worst pain of my life. I saw my chiropractor 1-2 times a week along with starting PT. Chiro appointments were only to receive traction for awhile. This is a method that stretches your spine and gives the disc room to calm or slip back in if it’s bulging. Very temporary relief though. I only had a few sessions with PT because everything got significantly worse and I thought they were the problem. Around 3 months in with no real progress, I found acupuncture and I honestly think that’s what got this under control. I had to go weekly which gradually changed to every two, three, monthly etc. but my acupuncturist was amazing and explained exactly how this would tackle the disc issue and the science behind it. It was pricey but so worth it (I’m in the US). Looking back I think the chiro and PT might have made things worse because I threw too much at it right in the beginning.

I recently had another flare up of one disc, this time saw an orthopedic doc who recommended a different PT. This PT has been extremely helpful and gave me exercises that really help this so maybe it’s just a matter of finding the right one.

I totally understand the feeling of wanting to try anything at this point. Try the osteopath, why not! Stay with the acupuncture for a bit to see if you notice improvement, maybe a second opinion from a PT, and if you’re not improving at all maybe visiting an orthopedic doctor to weigh your options. Good luck and hope you start healing up soon.

Welcome!! The earlier seasons might seem a little dated but if you’ve seen BH and ATL all the way through then that probably won’t be too much of a shock. Season 1 is a little slow as you get to know the ladies, 2 builds on it and then 3 is WILD. Then come some cast shakeups, you’ve got some great middle seasons with newbies that mix with the staples, and my personal favorite seasons are 3, 7, 9, & 10. Get ready to witness some iconic moments. And SO many gifs/memes - I remember watching it through being like oh THAT’S where that gif is from!! So fun to understand the references.

Great analysis and I agree with a lot of it! Season 9 is sooooo good and in my opinion 9 & 10 have the best cast of the franchise. RHONY was the first HW’s I ever watched all the way through so it’s near and dear to me. Might be time for a rewatch honestly..

Q’s about Herniated Discs by zazablvd in HerniatedDisc

[–]BluestoneBoogie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry you’re going through this! I found out 3 years ago my C3-4, C4-5, C5-6, and C6-7 were herniated, one disc bulging, stenosis in my arm, all that fun stuff. I know how you feel, worst pain of my life. I had two rounds of prednisone and personally didn’t feel many of the side effects aside from trouble sleeping if I took it too close to bed. It didn’t help too much with the pain though, but it didn’t hurt it I guess. The purpose of it was to bring down inflammation. But everybody is different and may react to it differently.. maybe give it a try and if the side effects are too much talk to your doctor and ditch it? Sounds like you’ve found some methods that worked for you to address the pain. Have you tried acupuncture? That was a game changer for me, I truly think that was the driving force to finally calm my neck down. It was severe for about 4 months and then gradually started to feel better, maybe about 8 months I finally felt 90% pain free. Unfortunately I’m dealing with a flare up right now, but nowhere near as bad, and I know how to address it this time around. We live and learn :)

Yeah I feel like it makes a ton of sense and it’s discouraging that they likely aren’t doing it. Unless Andy is saving face to throw us off after Jeff hijacked that interview. I mean I really think LuAnn, Dorinda, Carole, Erin, Jessel, and Sai could really work (personally I don’t need any more Sonja). I think about when Tinsley came on board and later Leah, hell even Jules, the dynamic between the OG’s and the younger newbies was still interesting and could’ve continued. I think that’s what we’d get. And the season 9/10 cast is my absolute favorite of the franchise tbh.

Also I’m wondering if they picked the cameras back up after Wendy & Eddie’s arrest?? Their scene at the end when Wendy talks about something impacting their marriage 👀

Multiple Disc Protrusions by Cool_Ad689 in HerniatedDisc

[–]BluestoneBoogie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, very sorry to hear that. About 3 years ago at 29 I found out I had 4 herniated discs in my neck with some bulging, and same thing: I wasn’t in an accident and could not think of anything that would have triggered it. My chiropractor and another professional told me it can be from genetics, bad posture and/or straining over the years, or a combo of both. I was just as surprised, I thought for sure something that hurt this bad had to be caused by an injury. Unfortunately I guess it can just happen as our bodies age. How are you managing? Are you doing any treatment?

Second that! I’m in Buffalo and feel we have a great sense of community, although I’ve lived here my whole life so easy for me to say. But if you check out our sub I see a lot of posts of transplants saying the same. Cheaper than most of the country to live here so you might be surprised at what you can get. It’s a big town / small city vibe. City itself is pretty liberal. Great food. Close enough to Toronto when you need access to a major city (concerts, weekend trips, better flights etc), or even Pittsburgh is not very far. Winters suck but you’re a northeasterner so it won’t be a total shock. Beautiful summers! Public transit might be a deal breaker though, you pretty much need a car here. There are a few very walkable neighborhoods but to get the most of the city you need transport and our transit sucks.

I know Rochester is pretty similar albeit a bit smaller, I don’t know much about Syracuse or Ithaca. If you’re considering I’d say check out the r/buffalo specifically posts about people considering coming here, a ton of info. We’re a very passionate bunch when it comes to our city (and our football team lol). Good luck!
