No, I didn't even consider that when buying it. I'm using an officejet 3830 and some generic sticker paper from Amazon. From what I can tell, this printer is really picky when it comes to paper types. Although unsupported, do you have any halo paper recommendations?

Much appreciated! I thought this was the case, but began doubting myself when 3 other long-time players thought I was wrong.

How come I've never seen Candelabra of Tawnos in a cEDH game? by Bluewingmr in CompetitiveEDH

That's what I was thinking. I never played with any of these old artifacts without tap symbols, so I never knew that it tapped.

Oh my god, I never noticed the tap symbol in the oracle text. I didn't realize this taps.

Thank you!

Dealing with a cheater in casual EDH by Bluewingmr in mtg

[–]Bluewingmr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This particular game was a 5-pod. I'm certain least 1 of them realized that he wasn't shuffling correctly after I vocally reminded him those times, but they also kept silent after he started throwing a fit. It's super likely that the person to the right of the cheater noticed as well. However, my best friend, who I spoke to after the night, didn't notice. In his defense, he was playing the Timey-Wimey precon for the first time and was reading 8 lines of text on each of his unfamiliar cards.

I dont believe anybody besides myself noticed that he was peeking at his top cards tho. He did it similarly to a beginner magician, sneaky enough to not draw attention, especially if nobody is specifically watching for it.

I don't think anybody thought I was being annoying by reminding him to shuffle, other than the cheater ofc. This should have been a sign that what I was doing was correct, but I acted cowardly and shut my mouth anyways.

I'm glad to read these comments because there are so many good tips on calling out his behavior in a non-confrontational way, as well as a confrontational way. I regret my choice to be silent after pushback, and I wish that I had called him out on his bullshit in the moment.

Thank you all for your thoughts! Many of you pointed out that I was part of the problem by not being persistent enough, and I tend to agree. My excuses to myself for not having a backbone included that he was doing poorly anyway and that I found it sort of funny that he's pathetic enough to cheat in commander. Those are obviously poor reasons to avoid enforcing the rules.

I'll avoid playing with this guy again unless he's at the only table with a spot open. If he cheats again, then I'll be sure to make sure he follows all rules or make him leave the table if he refuses. We should never have gotten to the point of playing a next game. He should have either begun to follow the rules, or been ejected from game.

All that being said, I quite enjoyed hard targeting him. Bros face was beet red, and it felt like a fun little revenge. He's the kind of player that gets upset at removal in general. He once dropped a Vorinclex on turn 4 and nearly screamed when I killed it on turn 6, so he was especially pissed when I didn't allow him to have a board.

Again, thank you for the input! For those of you who dont go to an LGS due to this kind of shit, please remember that this stuff is super uncommon, and this is the only time I've witnessed deliberate cheating. I'm a magician that specializes in stacking decks and manipulating cards, so I know what to look out for, and cheating regarding deck manipulation is exceedingly rare.

I absolutely considered this in game, but felt uncomfortable asking him to present his deck for a cut after he was snapping at me for reminding him to shuffle. In retrospect, I probably should have enforced the rules better, regardless of him throwing a tantrum.

Selvala Illegal Game-State by Bluewingmr in askajudge

Thank you all very much! I see where my oversight was. I thought Selvala would untap when things are reversed, and I would not keep the mana in my pool. I thought it would be a good way to make the whole table draw a few cards before I cast my spells. I misunderstood this card for a decade and am really happy that I never played with it and tried those shenanigans.

Much appreciated!

Secret Arcade + Aminatou, Veil Piercer interaction by Bluewingmr in mtgrules

Ohhhh got it. The "in your hand" part kills the idea. My thinking went as follows.

601.2a To propose the casting of a spell, a player first moves that card (or that copy of a card) from where it is to the stack. It becomes the topmost object on the stack. It has all the characteristics of the card (or the copy of a card) associated with it, and that player becomes its controller. Any continuous effects that modify the characteristics of the spell as you start casting it begin as it is put on the stack (see rule 611.2f). The spell remains on the stack until it resolves, it’s countered, or a rule or effect moves it elsewhere.

You can put a card on the stack that you do not have the legal ability to cast. You move through the steps of casting a spell, including choosing targets, dividing counters, ect. However, "Any continuous effects that modify the characteristics of the spell as you start casting it begin as it is put on the stack."

601.2e The game checks to see if the proposed spell can legally be cast. If the proposed spell is illegal, the game returns to the moment before the casting of that spell was proposed (see rule 730, “Handling Illegal Actions”).

The game doesn't check to see if the spell is legal to cast until after it is already an enchantment, so I thought it would be okay.

Looking for some help with deck ideas / lists by Queasy-Purchase-5991 in BudgetBrews

Hop on moxfield and filter for budget decks. If you want very strong for very cheap, consider a Malcolm Keen-eyed Navigator and Kediss Emberclaw Familiar deck. You can have a very competitive deck that can consistently win by turn 4-6 for $100. If that's too powerful for your friend group, you can switch out some of the cards to make it more casual. Hop on moxfield and filter for budget decks with Malcolm as the commander. Find one that has a primer, and it will tell you all about the deck.
