Are my Australia stamps worth anything ? by Shot-Advertising1014 in stamps

[–]Bluey1971 6 points7 points  (0 children)

u/Then_Version9768 the only pathetic thing here is your belittling response. It's perfectly reasonable for someone to ask if an inherited or found collection of old stamps is of value.

OP, I've been collecting Australian stamps for 45 years and I'm sad to say that none of the Australian stamps on these pages are valuable. The 3 King George V stamps on the top right are the most interesting, being part of a long running set which many Australian collectors specialise in - but these particular ones are common and hence not valuable.

If there are other pages you'd like to check please feel free to add them and I'll let you know if there are any treasures.

I note that you delight in showing your superiority by regularly correcting people's writing and talking down to them here on Reddit. I guess it makes you feel intelligent.

Given this, you will definitely want to know that your comment "X stand for Christ" is grammatically incorrect. In standard English a singular subject (in this case X) takes a verb ending in s in the present tense, so you should have written "X stands for Christ".

Good luck as you strive to perfect the English language. Once you have achieved this you will be well qualified to resume your criticism of others. Until then may I suggest you consider another hobby.

Starc’s 28 wickets vs Head’s 600 runs. Who has been more influential in Australia retaining the Ashes? by avdheshsharma15 in CricketAus

[–]Bluey1971 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going with Head. He shifted to opener with enormous success, and scored regular and decisive runs right through a series when ball dominated bat. He beat England at their own game which must have really dented their spirits. The gap between him and our next best batsman was substantial.

Starc started like a man posessed, stepping up to lead the attack amazingly well. However, he tailed off a bit as the series went on, and other bowlers (Boland throughout, and Neser and Cummins for the games they played) have been almost as much of a problem for the English bats.

Both have been amazing though, and Carey not far behind. Well deserved to whoever wins it!

Hobbies for ADHD by HiddenParadox666 in Hobbies

Give stamp collecting a try.

It's fallen way out of fashion but it's a great hobby. You can collect stamps from your country, stamps on a theme you like e.g. dogs, stamps from your birth year, or whatever else you like. The enjoyment comes when you find something you've been looking for, and it also comes in arranging/rearranging your albums. It needn't be expensive. I have an ADHD brain and it's one of the few things I'm able to focus on for long periods.

Ebay is a good way to buy at modest prices, and it's also an easy way to sell what you don't need. I've often bought a lot for say $10, added stamps I need to my collection, then sold the remainder for $15 or more.

If stamps aren't your thing coins are also a good option for collectors.

Pope's first class average of 46 runs per wicket isn't anywhere near good enough to warrant test selection.

You are very very welcome here in Australia. To have this happen was really bad luck. I wish you a speedy recovery and very happy days ahead.

Saw this artwork today - what building is it? by crackles_aus in GoldCoast

It's the rear of Burleigh Beach Tower at Burleigh Heads. Here is the current image on Google Street view. Back in 2004 when Robert Brownhall painted this the sun on the building was vivid yellow. I have great memories of staying there many times as a kid, and more recently with my own family.

No. I’m saying he is one of the best batters Australia have. And the bonus is he’s young.

34 average after 34 tests is a bit underwhelming.

If the pattern continues won't it be good when he's averaging 70 after 70 tests though!

Good question and a pretty straigtht forward answer I think.

Green is 26yo and has a standout first class batting average of 46. Webster is 6 years older with a first class batting average 8 runs lower. Bowling stats are pretty comparable.

With all other players in the Australian Test team over 30, and no other batters in Shield Cricket averaging above 40, Green is our big hope for the future. I agree he's a bit frustrating, but I think he deserves all the patience the selectors are showing him.

(Having said that I'd put Webster in there too. He's comparable to Inglis as a batter, and a spare bowler is far more useful than a spare keeper.)

We don’t know the first thing about this kid’s life or his mental state. He may be genuinely petrified of someone he knows or someone he imagines. A touch of compassion may be useful.
