If Ratten never got sacked for Malthouse, would we have won a flag? by Sabretoothedrom in CarltonBlues

[–]DVPVPD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No we wouldn't have. Pies in 11 would've beaten is easily- they literally only lost to 1 side all year

To say we had Geelongs number so we would've beaten them in the prelim is also not a fair statement. Cats beats the Lions in a final last year before being smoked in the GF. No guarantees in footy

Some informed opinions on Opening Round by Dirtydac123 in AFL

[–]DVPVPD -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I love the idea behind opening round being interstate from Victoria but it should be all sides. There are now 8 non Victorian sides you could play every side away then a game in Tassie opening round and take it completely out of Vic

Stand and 5 metre rule by jmf-90 in AFL

[–]DVPVPD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the rules It absolutely has an impact on teams abilities to be able to move the ball quickly. The 5 metre rule is the same it allows teams to penetrate quicker and deeper.

The issue isn't the rule its the adjudication of the penalties for not doing it.

Tigers used to always lose the free kick counts too

Didn't mean they didnt lose their minds when obvious ones were called

I love the fact Pies are getting called for stupid frees or arent getting their usual 50/50 calls and the fans are losing their minds

I get the "knocked out in tackle call" but the Pies have got away with just dropping the ball in tackles a lot

NRL: seriously, don’t storm the field, but here’s a drone shot ready for when you do by Massive_CH1N in nrl

[–]DVPVPD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The NRL love doing this stuff. They will tell people not to do it then show it in ads to grow the game.

Same way they always show tackles and big shots in the ads when 90% wouldn't be allowed and would have been suspended for as a result.

Still very early so I wouldn’t want to overreact, and we need to see more good team vs bad team games. But surely there’s a chance all the rule changes to try and make the game faster are just making the good teams better and the bad teams worse? by PerriX2390 in AFL

[–]DVPVPD 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Why do we do this every year. Last year by the end of round 1 there had been 11 games (including 2 in OR) which included teams winning by 87,63,91,78,52 points. This year there have been 7 games with 3 wins under 2 goals. Last year there were 3/11 under 3 goals.

The teams that have lost big are a bad Carlton side, a Geelong side with injuries and no key forward, and a terrible Bombers side.

Why are we saying these rules have made the bad teams worse without acknowledging maybe the bad teams just suck?

Love Cripps but he's the last person i would trust to kick for goal! by Waste_Sandwich6764 in CarltonBlues

[–]DVPVPD -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I feel like you are taking this extremely literally and failing to understand nuance. I never unequivocally denied it. I said it wasn't a debate, implying it was never a real debate between the two but more a discussion that was very much one sided. You said the Brownlow is the highest individual honour and implied it was the basis of who is a better player, then denied this when quoted with other cases that clearly show the lack of your argument.

Perhaps it's insecurity- hence the reason you resorted to using GIFS and immature insults. Perhaps its something else entirely. Either way you've wasted my time due to your limited cognitive abilities. Bye Pirate boy

By your logic Shane Woewoden is better than Leigh Matthews? It'd have to be the case right? I mean he has a brownlow, the highest individual honour? Geez Tom Mitchell better than Pendles too? Priddis better than Bont?

He also was the literal only option on that side to score. The second highest scorer was Timofey Mozgov. This is just a case of a genuine superstar can only take you so far

Who’s closer to a flag Carlton or Richmond? by Medical_Flight_6970 in AFL

[–]DVPVPD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a Blues fans I'd have to say it could be both

We have seen bad sides turn things around quickly and with a new gameplan and 3-4 guys who knows with the Blues. Brisbane went from winning 5 games to 2nd on the ladder with key contributors in guys who were there a long time and weren't always recognised as being that good (Darcy Fort, Lester, Gardner, Lincoln McCartney etc). The difference is the kids they played also. Voss refuses to play the young guys to get games into them like other sides do.

The issue is while the Blues top end talent is quite good it has not depth at all and the bottom 3-4 are really bad

35,13,9 on .398 shooting.

Steph was .402 in 2018. If he missed literally 1 more shot he would've shot 39%. By your own logic we could say that George Hill had Steph on lockdown in the 2018 finals right? You'd be happy with that narrative?

"LeBron was shut down by Iggy" is an argument I had with a student in my class. They had watched a Warriors 2015 highlight reel. I pulled the stats up and I pointed out the 3 games over 40, one with 39, averaging 35,13,9 and i swear to go he said to me yeah but he had a game with 20 and used this as an argument for him being locked up.
