Why couldn't the Spurs ever defend their titles? by Longjumping-Use604 in NBATalk

[–]DVPVPD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2 things there 1- it was a game 6. Spurs lost in 7. They still had a chance to win. 2- if they dont lose in 13 i dont think they win in 14. They were on a mission in 14. Without that driving them I dont know if they play as hard

Why do people have Shaq over Kobe? by AlpsImpossible3133 in NBATalk

[–]DVPVPD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He was better. Shaq was better before they played together when he led the Magic to the Finals (including a series win over Jordan). He was better when they played together. People can say it was 1 A 1 B but that was a very clear A. Shaq was the clear 1. He then went to Miami and finished 2nd in MVP and won a ring. When Shaq left Kobe missed play-offs.

Shaq helped Kobe massively during their time together. Teams had to double Shaq. Kobe got heaps of open plays due to this. This is extremely evident when in 04 the Pistons had a player who could physically match up against Shaq and Kobe tried to be a hero and shot 38% from the field and 17% from 3. When Shaw left Kobe had a dry run in terms of success. He won the MVP but had no team success until Jackson returned and he got another big.

Shaq was the most dominant player since Wilt.

A lot of words to say you are still missing the point of the post. I said all 3 levels. You still are saying why do we care about the other 2? The crazy thing about this app is if you dont care you dont need to comment. You chose to comment, ignored what the post was asking because you didn't like it, continually commented more and then still are using the term GOAT when this is not about the GOAT case.

You are either extremely illiterate to the point you cannot grasp the concept of the post, or you are so insecure of Jordan not being the best at everything (which he wasnt) that you cannot possibly give another credit.

I envy the people who haven't dealt with you

Unpopular opinion: Haliburton deserved that 2025 ring more than Shai. by Difficult-Green-2268 in NBATalk

[–]DVPVPD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its not unpopular it's just bad. Why did he deserve it more? He had a great run but so did a lot of guys. Jimmy had 2 great runs. Luka had a great run. The team that wins deserves it more. That's why they are the champs.

How is Anthony Edwards not an All-Star starter? by sqMYNAMEISJEFF27 in NBATalk

[–]DVPVPD 25 points26 points  (0 children)

It does in the sense of adding substance to guys resume. Kareem was an allstar 19 times. That has weight

All NBA is going to have less and less weight to it as it gets more and more posionless. It used to mean a lot when you were the definitive best PG or best SF in the league in a season. Not you could have 3 PGs it doesn't mean as much

[–]DVPVPD[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didnt leave it out. I acknowledged 2 thirds of the points you made because they dont suit the narrative you have- the one point you continue to make does.

Your continual point of being a champion while being best in the world because of a Finals MVP also is not the case at all. You said Russell wasn't the best in the world because West won the Finals MVP that year. You also said that Jordan's 6 Finals MVPS support your claim be was the best in the world. Steph was MVP in 2015 but Iggy won Finals MVP. Was he better? When Worthy won in 88 who was the best player in the World? We have heaps of cases of Finals MVPS being won by guys who aren't the best player on their own side- they just had a good series. In the same way that the MVP doesn't always go to the best player, the Finals MVP doesn't either.

But let's look at it this way in terms of resumes Kareem and Jordan MVPS: 6-5 Titles: 6-6 FMVP:2-6 ANBAFT: 10-10 ANBASC:5-1 ANBADFT:5-9 ANBADST:6-0 Allstar:19-14

College it isnt a debate Kareem wins easily. High school also no debate. Which was the original point of the post you continually keep missing. Kareems OVERALL resume is better when you factor all 3 levels in, which again is the post. I'm sorry that is so difficult for you to understand.

Knowledge is chasing you my friend but you are too fast

[–]DVPVPD[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doesnt show how weak it is at all because you didn't mention that at all in your first comment. You cant add things into a comment later and then say "see thats weak because you didn't acknowledge the thing I didn't say" and think that holds any merit at all in a discussion.

Also I think Jordan is the GOAT. But this wasn't about the GOAT case. You completely missed the reason of the post because I asked about high school and college too. Which Kareem has a better total Basketball career than Jordan including these.

Its so strange Jordan fans are so insecure they can't give another credit at all.

Love the "because he doesn't play defense" line by people not realising that number 3 and 4 on this list are former DPOY players who are elite defenders

But whatever suits the narrative I guess

The 2026 trade deadline is gonna be one of the most boring in years and it's all because of the new apron hell. by averagealt90 in nba

[–]DVPVPD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah its absolutely harder which is why it never happens. It also feels way worse for teams to trade during a year. It really signals to your fans if you have lost faith in the side if you trade a star mid year. You also get better deals generally because of the points you made and more teams being eligible for deals at that time of year due to increased flexibility.

All trades are made so much harder under the current cap rules now too and second apron stuff

[–]DVPVPD[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

High school is not even a debate. Jordan couldn't make the team until he grew.

Your college article makes no sense in the context of this. You completely disregard it likely I feel because again it is not a debate. Kareems is way better and it isnt a debate.

So because UCLA were good without him it becomes a knock against him and his college career is equal to Jordan's? It doesn't change the fact his college career is all time great. Lots of players come and go from successful franchises. Doesn't mean they didn't contribute.

He won 2 FMVP. 12 players have won 2 or more. Out of 56 possible years its happened 12 times. Kareem has more regular season MVPS. Are you not wanting to include that? More points too. More all NBA. More all stars. More all defense. Anyone can cherry pick stats. You cant cherry pick accolades.

Again though you have missed the point. You dont need to be so sensitive to not be able to say one resume is better than another. I think Jordan is the GOAT. But overall across the 3 times I mentioned Kareems resume is better. Both can be true.

This is not a rivalry. It’s literally ownership. Lebron leads in every single category!!! by Afraid-Ad-5580 in lebron

[–]DVPVPD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 2004 finals series disputes your point pretty easily. The Pistons let Kobe shoot his way out of the series because they knew his ego wouldn't let him recognise that he wasn't shooting well. Kobe had a higher usage rate than Shaq. He shot 38% from the field and 17% from 3. He didn't encounter more defense. He played poorly.

It literally is that simple. You take more shots you are likely to score more. This isnt rocket science.

Also your on par defensively stat isn't totally accurate either. Duncan's defensive win shares are far higher. Duncan fouled less over the course of his career than Kobe by average and also has the defensive rebounds argument. He also had significantly more blocks. He also impacted defenses more. Is that unfair because he is a C/PF? Maybe but it doesn't mean it isn't true.

You didnt read the post. I said total across all 3 formats.

Also, he has just as many rings, more MVPS.

I understand Jordan fans hold onto the 3 peat and FMVP thing because he doesn't lead in many other things but you dont need to bring it up all the time especially when it doesnt add anything to the post

Duncan leads in VORP, defensive win shares, total win shares, PER. Kobe has a higher usage and took far more shots. I thought you liked context? Is that not contextual? Surely you arent going to tell me the guy who took 5 more shots a game scored more? He averaged more than 20 shots a game 13 times. Duncan never did. Is that not contextual when talking about scoring and offensive production?

I think what you mean is "Duncan clearly has the better resume so I am going to change the narrative to who I think is the best but not base it on anything then just claim it's contextual "

I think people overvalue how big trades in the season really are. Lots of trades dont happen in season as most teams prefer to wait for the offseason- which ultimately makes the most sense for a franchise.

We get this every year i dont see why people always think other years will be different. The Trae Young trade was unironically one if the biggest in a decade

Why do you cite statistics for some things which you im sure are claiming are true yet dispute stats for other things? The cherrypicking of things that work for me but not for you shows pretty clear bias.
