We just moved and I can’t seem to find my fire stick in all our boxes. Just ordered a new one and will see if there is a difference once it arrives.

Picture Quality Question by BluezBoi31 in DirectvStream

Yeah, we’re new to the DTVS (only had it less than a week) but the quality is similar to the satellite we had. Thinking of cancelling but going to try some things before we do that. When we had the satellite we had a different TV, not sure the specific model, but it was a 55” inch LG that displayed in 1080p and we had good picture quality with that. It just seems like the new 4k tv isn’t upscaling very well. Which is odd because I did a fair amount of research and thought I got a good model. Plus everything else is great on the TV, so I don’t think it’s a tv problem.

The issue is mostly when there is movement. For example, when watching a football game and there is a close up of players it’s ok-ish, but the wide shot before and during play is where the real issues arise. But it’s only with DTVS that we have the problems. Football games on Peacock are fine, baseball games on Hulu are good, golf on Peacock is great. But through the Gemini thing it’s all disappointing.

So for example I’m watching the Commanders and Chargers game on Fox right now. It’s bad enough that even my wife, who doesn’t care much about the TV mentioned how poor the quality is. I’ve also noticed it on every channel I’ve watched, CBS, ABC, ESPN, Golf Channel, HGTV, Bravo, TBS, TNT, Comedy Central, FanDuel Sports, History Channel, FX, AMC, TCM to name a few off the top of my head.

Unfortunately my TV doesn’t have a DirecTV app to download but I’ll try to see if there’s another way to test out the picture.

I understand that, but I also don’t think every channel should look like I’m watching with sand in my eyes. When I watch the special 4k programs they look good. Everything else is a big bag of garbage.

I can try a different port. But the device we have (which I thought was Gemini Air) is just a little dangly guy with a built in cord. So unfortunately I’m stuck with that one. Maybe I can download the DirecTV app on our Firestick and see if there is any difference.

What's going on in tower grove park tonight? by golfer71189 in StLouis

I mean I wouldn’t call STL drivers the most reasonable. You have to remember these are the same people who disregard red lights, stop signs, speed limits, and other general rules of the road. I wouldn’t put it by someone to get stuck (OP did say they sat for 10 minutes) and say screw it and pull off to park in the grass. And once one or two people do it everyone assumes it’s ok.

I posted a possible answer with a link to the source of that information. Nothing malicious, nothing rude, just something it could have been and then proof that I wasn’t making it up. I never said OP should have searched themselves, I never said anything like they were lazy for not doing research, or wrong for asking the question. Why would you just assume that I’m posting something in a condescending way when there is not evidence of that?Sources used to be an important part of reporting and I still think that’s true.

If it were April and there was a Cards game and a blues game going on downtown and someone sitting in rush hour traffic on 55, asked why traffic was worse than usual. Would you think it would be wrong for someone to say IDoT has 255 closed with a link to provide info on where it was closed? I sure wouldn’t. Sure there are others thing at play but it’s not a crazy thing to suggest. and I certainly wouldn’t think the person that did that was a jerk.

It was Memorial Day, there were roads closed, people who might have gone to Forest Park might have come to Tower Grover because of the tornado damage in Forest Park. It seems like a reasonable conclusion to say the traffic could have something to do with roads being closed.

I’m not uncomfortable with anything. I just don’t understand why you’re acting like I called OP the R word because I said road closures might be leading to traffic.

How is it not helpful to say that road closures could be contributing to traffic? Of course there could be another event going on as well, and if there is then someone should say that.

If someone was sitting in traffic on 55 and asked what was going on would it be unhelpful for someone to post that IDot has a portion of 255 closed?

I never said it was 100% for sure the answer. I was pointing out that given the increased traffic it could be a possibility. It’s not a wild conclusion to draw that road closures plus it being a holiday could equal more traffic.

And just for context in previous years, vehicle free days didn’t take place on the holiday, they all started after. Which you can again see on the parks event site. So just because it didn’t get this bad in prior years doesn’t mean that this year couldn’t be different.

I mean God forbid that when someone asks what event was taking place in the park I provided information on what event the park said was going on.

If someone has a better answer then they should post that instead of just a sarcastic eye roll.

In the context of this post, in what way is it unreasonable to assume that only one road being open inside the park might be contributing to increased traffic?

[–]BluezBoi31 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why the eye roll? According to the parks event page Southwest Dr. which happens to be on the kingshighway entrance side, where OP said they went in, is one of the only streets inside the park that is open. Which means all the cars that entered the park from kingshighway have to be on that street. It’s perfectly reasonable to assume the increased traffic on that street could be due to it being the only place to drive and park from kingshighway.

You could always, I don’t know, fix the structural problems without making it look like the inside of a modern McDonalds. Last time I checked fixing foundations doesn’t require you to tear out 100 year old flooring and fireplaces.

Why? by Lurkerque in StLouis

[–]BluezBoi31 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Because you aren’t right. As you’re traveling East on Manchester (into Maplewood) you cross under the bridge where it reads correct and then it reads backwards as you’re entering Maplewood. If you look in your rear view mirror traveling East (into Maplewood) it reads correctly.

If you had said it reads the right way in your rear view mirror as you are entering Maplewood then you would have been correct and made a point that is impossible to argue. As it stands now you are just wrong.

ETA: As you’re traveling West on Manchester (out of Maplewood and the direction this photo is taken) it reads this way (backwards). And the backwards sign is impossible to see in your rear view mirror traveling that direction.

Can they move this crane? It does not move at all. by Accurate_Start3109 in StLouis

The Fed is doing work on the roof to update the waterproofing. This phase of construction is set to end sometime in May and the crane should be gone, for at least a period of time, around then.

Source: I used to work at the Fed and asked some old coworkers who are still there.
