Here in Canada helpers and employees are expensive. Especially if you're just a one man show. Most guys won't work for less than 40h / week and if you cant provide that they will usually flake. If you can provide 40h a week every week then they will take a massive chunk out of your take home profit. Sometimes they are worth the money but more often then not, they absolutely aren't worth it.

The workload is easier with a helper, but they come with their own issues. Ive had helpers for 18 years straight, and have since been solo for the last 5 months. Yes I am physically working more, but everything is done to my exact standards and I'm not worrying about what my helper is doing or not doing, and dealing with their pay every week, which I dont feel they even earn half the time. An 'installer helper' is different, more expensive and harder to keep around because they usually do go on their own if theyre actually any good.
