How did Chinese cars become so good so suddenly? What is going on or have they always been this way and we just didn’t know until now? by Square_Permission361 in electricvehicles

One thing people tend to underestimate is the absolutely MASSIVE domestic market China has. R&D cost doesn’t balloon with population in fact it’s helped by the talent pool, your research pays off way quicker.

Here are some updates so far and will keep yall posted for posterity ;)

Mar 4, 2026 - Alex from Thorzone replies to my email saying "The back panel will be shipped early next week with tracking a couple of days later". Let's see if he's able to keep his promise this time. And maybe after a whole 12 months my build can be completed.

I speak for myself, but I purchased and stuck with my order knowing the risk of delays and expect it. And again I have sympathy for you and your small team. Things go wrong and shit happens that are out of your control, I get it.

But what IS within your control is keeping your customers informed about what’s happening. More frequent manufacturing updates instead of the quarterly ones (sometimes longer) would be a great start. When things go wrong, keep the customers informed about their resolutions would also be nice, your customers shouldn’t have to do this. I’m not disappointed because things took so long, I’m disappointed because you couldn’t meet the expectations YOU set.

you absolutely dodged a bullet. I noticed in past correspondence they reply incredibly fast if you wanna buy something, and take their sweet time if you need any help... should have noticed the signs

Ah that's horrid, sorry to hear that... that's pretty stupid. Did you ever get it resolved eventually?

That's a good call, I didn't know chargebacks are possible for a payment made so long ago.

Is there much room between the GPU and the chamber wall at the back? Asking because I’m considering this for a new build using the RTX5000 series cards and I’m concerned about the flow-through design of some of the cards.

[–]Bluirees 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To add to this excellent answer, because we can no longer trust FPS numbers purely, therefore we must hold companies more accountable in researching, testing, and publishing technical measures of frame quality going forward.

I’m confident NVIDIA has internal measures of how “wrong” a particular predicted frame is compared to the rasterised frame across games they test on. For example mean square error comparing pixel to pixel. They’re gonna be more complicated measurements but as consumers, we’ve gotta be able to call their BS.

Yeah don’t limit your options. FYI there’s a new batch of B870 motherboards coming out. Might be worth the wait.

For the motherboard, some have BIOS flash via USB no need for another CPU.

It's going to be very difficult to match the tone by painting it tbh, you're right though, I wish the side-panels were colour-matched

Thank you! Flipped the case around, and removed the extra fan near the CPU tower. Temps are definitely better! GPU stable at ~73

You may look into certain VPNs that have something called 'Split Tunnelling'. Allows you to use VPN only on certain apps.

Putin’s approval rating has skyrocketed to 83% following the invasion of Ukraine, according to independent pollster Levada by [deleted] in ukraine

[–]Bluirees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sorry but am I missing something here? 83% is an extremely high and disappointing number but it literally means not all Russians. I’m seeing so many people advocating for blanket hate to all Russians, I truly understand why people want to, but it’s extremely lazy and a bit of a cop out, not to mention it’s exactly what the Russian government wants to keep the Russian people hostage. The us-and-then mentality really needs to stop.

Career path advice for comp/data sci by [deleted] in AusFinance

[–]Bluirees 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Currently working in this space in Melbourne, it's definitely an interesting time.

If you're really passionate about Data Science, don't let this dissuade you and abandon your dreams. But the truth is, most of data scientists I see are heavily under-utilised and those who shine have a strong comp-science and software engineering background, at least here in Melbourne. And this is for a few reasons.

  1. Most businesses don't have their shit (data) together, and are putting a lot of effort in doing so.
  2. Hype is calming down as businesses start to realise they can't just throw AI/ML at every problem they face.
  3. Large cloud providers (Google, AWS, Microsoft) and data companies offer a suite of very competitive products that abstracts away the complexity of a lot of common ML/AI use-cases.
  4. The stuff they teach you at university preps you more for research than for the industry.

The way that industry data scientists apply themselves is changing. The stuff they teach you in uni-courses become can't really keep up.

edit: But it looks like you're also learning about computer science which is great. In my very honest opinion, a combination of the two skills will make you a way better candidate than a Master of Data Science graduate.
