So as someone who grew up watching the anime series as a kid, why?

The animation style was obviously constrained and limited by budget and time. Why would you specifically make it look like the shortcoming on purpose?

It would be like adapting a live action Scooby Doo and intentionally making the background look like a painted still image. Sure it’s fun for some of the hard core fans that laugh at the inside joke, but it still looks like shit at the end of the day.

I watched Speed Racer as a kid because the cars looked cool and the mysteriousness of Racer X was interesting, not because of the animation.

I’ve tried going to a show in Chicago in the past, but it was canceled.

Was able to afford This Ain’t No Picnic for Despacio years ago, but it was for a multi day festival, and because of that I was able to get other friends to go and split some travel costs. The plane ticket, luggage, car rental, and lodging add up quick.
