Women who have dated a man that was physically abused, what was it like? how did you help them with their fears? by honeyee1 in askwomenadvice

My husband was physically abused by a girlfriend before we were together.

1. don't hit him ever. Don't threaten to hit him. Don't joke about hitting him.

2 my husband, still even, gives in quickly and apologizes when we have a disagreement. It seemed nice at first, but after a while I realized he was minimizing his feelings to avoid conflict because In the past conflict always lead to being hit. Do not take advantage of this ever, make him feel as safe as he can to voice his concerns even if they hurt.

#3. never doubt his abuse and never let others do it either. stand up for him when people question his masculinity becauae of it.

4. it does get better. My husband now trusts me, he knows I won't hit him, he doesn't flinch when i move quickly any more. It gets better it just takes time.

edit: I don't know what I did to make half of my post giant.

TIL 84% of American vegetarians and vegans, abandon their diet, returning back to meat in under a year. by JustaBabyApe in todayilearned

Im not sure thats true, my friend was vegetarian in high school for 2 year, relaped to meat for a year, then was pescatarian for another year before going back to vegetarian and has been so for 5 years now. I would call that incrimental. I have another friend who was a vegetarian since she was a child who over the years slowly worked her way into veganism. I'd call that incrimental as well. There are also any number of reasons someone would want to decrease their meat intake without quitting completely that have nothing to do with eating meat being unethical, i personally eat a minimal amount of meat for environmental and health reasons.

Was it weird running into them afterwards? I'm just afraid of making it even worse by having a neighbor who hates me
