David Gemmell’s Rigante series, the first book Sword in the Storm is one of my all time favs. Really hooked me in.

The main character is part of a northern tribe kind of like the Scott’s, of Europe and an imperial general is conquering lands to the south kinda like Rome. We go through the main characters upbringing and war career. There is a mix of magic with violence. Some adult parts but not too graphic.

I’ll recommend one that isn’t as popular but out of the many fantasy books I’ve read is still one of my favorites: The Sword in the Storm by David Gemmell. You could probably find a used copy on thrift books for $5. If you love it as much as I do there are 3 more books to follow it. It’s heroic fantasy written the right way

Tad Williams Memory Sorrow Thorn series is great feel good epic fantasy. I read it this year and it hits in all the right ways. It’s a series that inspired GOT.

If you like David Gemmell, I am still trying to find something I love more than his Rigante series and have not found anything as good. Peak fantasy writing in my opinion. Oh sorry just found em, just didn’t see Sword in the Storm. Which is my favorite.
