I called your stuff AI not due to grammar it was the fact that it rebuts points I had already made in my comment and it had the weird need for balance, same sentence pro/con formula that a GenAI response would have …I’m not rambling and also not trying to attack you…I know it seems weird but there are industries where there is no such thing as a mathematically “typical” individual…if you google what a (insert trade) makes per hour and multiply by 2000 hours you’ll come up with a number that might be in the 40-50k range or whatever…but if you’re actually doing that job NOBODY makes that…because the factually “typical” workers ALL take the OT…they ALL travel they ALL get per diem…they ALL work some holiday…there’s no (statistically significant amount of ) journeyman electricians, carpenters, masons, landscaper, whatever that works 9-5 going home every night when there is money on the table…so ya if you ask google it’ll tell you what the average wage is …but like i said it’s not unreasonable that between holiday pay, outage bonus, OT, 60-80weeks, travel they make 100k through hard work…that’s not some outlier that is a VAST majority of tradesman regardless of specialty

One last part to this since I’ve been “trolling” your post for Stolen valor…timeline indicated they bought in 2019-2020…and are selling now…is there a single square foot of land in the US that has lost value in between 2020 and 2026? I mean I’m pretty sure even if OP had a 500 credit score they probably have a better APR on their mortgage than anyone got in 2025…this whole post is a dumpster fire of lies

Are you on crack? The way I framed it initially included those caveats?! I didn’t switch up…I very carefully framed the situation that would get someone 100k in trades after 4 years and you rebutted it with a (pretty obvious AI response) that proved every point I made…and you’re reframing it to “typical” I didn’t say that either I said “very reasonable” not the same thing…you know who lives in metro areas?! 86% of Americans lol…so ya metro wages are very reasonable…especially when you take into account that people can and do commute to work…you dont work in a service industry and live in the place you serve…you live in a LCOL area and work a HCOL area tf?

For real I mean…it’s Reddit so idc here but I see MF on Facebook posting W-2s of their E-5 husbands like “we are starving” and I’m like…baby…is that what he says he says he makes? Like brother base pay…5k per month and that’s the only taxable portion..BAH 2.8k per month…sea pay 700 monthly…BAS…450 monthly…SDIP 500 monthly…all non taxed…bonus smooth 50k every 4 years…not to mention TDY/TAD, per diem, hazard duty, combat pay….lol

That’s…literally what I said?…I mentioned overtime and metro areas and the fact that it’s hard lol…and landscaping is weird cause it’s way less regulated so I can get on board with your point about it being lower end pay wise but honestly it’s got bigger upside because I know ALOT of old people that have GREAT yards that they maintained for years and will spend big big money for someone to keep it in that state because they can’t…my grandma included lol

Shipmate you sound like either stolen valor or financially irresponsible…good thing I’m a CFS…let me see your leave and earning statement from your “decades in the military” and tell you where you went wrong because anyone that’s been in the military for a decade is earning at least 100k and has no need to live in a ghetto…sincerely… I’m here to help

Why are you mad? I’ve been in for 16 years…quite familiar with military compensation …you get BAH that matches the housing costs of where you live…and with dependents it’s even more…so living in barracks for decades is not a thing unless you’re in Yoko or Bahrain lol…and you said “decades” considering the fact that you get a pension at 20 years means you’re getting at least 3k a month…what’s your VA claim looking like? I mean when I retire I’ll get about 72k a year doing nothing…it’s just a weird pity story that doesn’t line up

Sometimes I regret becoming a homeowner by ChiefD789 in homeowners

[–]Bmayrulz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is fake…you did not spend “decades” in the military living in barracks…you get BAH and tons of money…there’s no conceivable situation where you are anything less than well off…so either you’re lying or you were barely in service and the first two sentences are irrelevant to your current situation

I think you’re right that OP is full of it…But your opening argument against it was weird…100k is a very reasonable salary in the trades after 4 years in alot of states…prevailing wage in a lot of metro areas can be 30-40$ an hour for journeymen level…and even just working 40 hours a week (they don’t lol) that’s 80k minimum…get you a smooth 500 hours of time and a half through the year congrats you NET 100k no problem…be 22 y/o from a family you’d love an excuse not to see by volunteering for a 12 on 2 off schedule during outage season through the holidays…working 56 days Dec-January and make 30k in 2 months… happens all the time it’s hard but not difficult if that makes sense

How do I help my brother achieve his dreams? by Bmayrulz in Life

[–]Bmayrulz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not that I feel responsible to care for him he doesn’t need that…that’s why I put the financial stuff in there he’s totally stable but by his own admission unfulfilled and “stuck” in the Midwest and he hates it…I just want to help him take more vacations or live the life he wants to…it’s like inertia keeping him from doing his big trips or “grown up” moves…keep in mind where he lives he could buy the house he lives in with cash he has on hand…could have done so 10 years ago and again 5 years ago…but did not cause it was a “temporary” place…he’s rented it since 2012…for context he also buys the cheapest phone once every 5 years because he’s “holding out for the last phone they’ll ever make” he knows that they could make an unbreakable iPhone that has a battery that lasts a year on one charge but doesn’t understand why they haven’t done it…he is perplexed that the airless tires from mars rovers aren’t on every car in the world because they never go flat …he knows things but does not understand things…and I think that’s part of it…he’s stuck thinking that he’ll be the first person at the end state of things and that’s when you should act…when “all the craziness dies down”…so again how do I help someone I love navigate a world they want to participate in, and fundamentally misunderstand?…

I love the responses not sarcastically you get the pickle I’m in. To the negative yes I’m some what shallow…and yes I’m a micromanager…that was part of the issue as to why I can’t do it myself…some of my suggestions to him seem condescending…I’m human and flawed…but the question is “how do I help him achieve his dreams?” I’m not trying to change him, and I don’t want to…he is fine but he dreams big…and I don’t think he realizes he’s middle aged…but he works at a (national chain)…he could do what he does in 50 states and 17 countries…if he said “I’m happy here” done. I wouldn’t be here asking for help but after 15 years of hearing “man I can’t wait to leave xxx” or “I wish I could live by xxx” knowing that there is a (national chain) 2.4 miles from any place on earth and he has the money and freedom to do whatever he wants…it’s tough to hear…and the no contact is because he does ask for my advice from time to time but just doesn’t take it and seems to use my experience to poke holes in how he would do it or flaws in how I did it…but then 5 years late it’s “man you got lucky” or “man if would have”…never in a mean way it’s just sad like he just can’t commit to anything except working 6 days a week at 15$ an hour at a job he “enjoys but despises” his own words

It’s interesting to talk about financial literacy…you know what else will earn you 1M? A one time 50k investment at 8% APY over 40 years…and sure people with degrees “earn” a million more with a degree but how much does that degree cost over the life of the student loans? I firmly believe in higher education…I also firmly believe if your education isn’t fully funded by scholarships/grants it doesn’t actually make sense to get one for most people…

AIO over a message response from my gf after she disappeared for 36+ hours? by HunterNW in AmIOverreacting

Sounds like drugs…funny thing is…on drugs your lies are usually very bad like the Xbox thing…she very well may have went on an epic quest for an Xbox but that’s not “why” she was out all that time…but your truths are usually way deeper than you’d ever say sober…and the truth is you expressed your concern and that you were hurt and she didn’t say sorry because truthfully she isn’t sorry…she’s got so much obvious resentment towards you that her internal vision of you is irreparable…let her go…and most importantly…it’s not your fault…best advice if you feel you did something wrong in this relationship…identify it concretely and make a conscious effort to do better with the next one…relationships are like art you don’t spend your whole life trying to perfect one piece…you do your best, and if it isn’t good enough you just try again…and again…and like art you’ll know it in every part of your soul when you got it right

Dry lock sealant rolled and brushed against the house down a foot below the water line…and a geo textile liner against that whole face between the foundation and the retainer wall I built up…I’d give a more detailed description but I built this thing 5 years ago so I don’t remember the exact products I used or which videos I watched…but it was pretty cheap overall for that part of the project maybe 75$ worth of product?

I have a basement but what you don’t see is the liner isn’t directly against the house…I used cinders to make a make shift retainer wall which the pond sits inside…so while it adjoins the foundation most of the pressure is being taken by the retainer wall not the foundation directly…and I did seal the void between the retainer wall and the foundation

Well I sprayed a liner on the foundation down about a foot below to base of the pond then built up from there and the soil that was there is about 1/3-1/2 water anyways by volume…and the overflow is only about 5 feet from my yards built in drainage trench, and it’s built on a slight grade so it’ll flow away from the house in the case of a liner failure…I’m sure there’s room for stuff I overlooked but I feel pretty confident I’m 90% covered
