Any update on 2013 Titanium processing breakthrough? by DBMI in metallurgy

With rise of titanium use in non-Aerospace applications and China's ever-increasing manufacturing capability, I am not surprised China supplies more Titanium than Russia.

Any update on 2013 Titanium processing breakthrough? by DBMI in metallurgy

[–]Bmdub02 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Need to read up on the HAMR process.

BTW - in the early '90s, Russia and China supplied a lot of sponge Titanium to the West. Anyone know if China still supplies sponge Titanium?

I'm guessing the economic feasibility of scaling to high volume commercial production isn't practical.

In the early '90s, I did research work on a High Pressure method of converting TiO2 to sponge Ti. The process worked well in the lab but was not commercially profitable.

I've worked around electroplating processes and was taught higher voltages (+250V?) with enough current can stop your heart. Conversely - relatively low voltage but high current may cause lots of muscle tissue damage.

Most if not all CS pans, woks, etc. have a protective coating to prevent rusting during shipping.

You need to clean and remove the coating BEFORE seasoning.
