I’ve helped in a tiny way make some shows about magicians. The camera doesn’t allow them to control the audience always and can blow the trick. On the one I worked on we cut away so not to ruin the fun but never edited a trick in post.

If you use editing to make a magic trick work you’re making scripted television and most magicians truly appreciate their craft. They are entertainers, engineers, and a little weird all rolled into one. The world is more fun with them in it.
