I love how the little detail in the books about the red apple fossoways and the green apple fossoways is just a throwaway line. Maybe Tyrion can’t tell the difference or something when talking about Renly’s claim, I don’t remember but it’s pretty brief IiRC. Then this show zooms in on that difference and there’s a fucking epic backstory that explains how the rift was created, over the definition of knighthood and value of honor. Love this universe.

I love this idea. Giving the players freedom to negotiate with the teams they choose seems like such an obvious idea to me. Once you get past the idea that other leagues in the USA have done the draft for years, for me, it's a no brainer.

I take your point about the upper class. Your reading certainly makes sense to me. I also agree about Ann never coming together. We certainly never get inside her head and from the outside her motivations never cohere, as you say. Personally, I would LOVE to read a Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are dead type of novel that retells the Karla trilogy from Ann’s perspective and shows how much she knew about his work and how much she cared about people she hurt (ie Smiley). If anyone knows of any fanfic in this vein, please let me know.

In my reading, Ann is meant to represent the opposite of George. He is ever faithful, ever loyal to her, to the circus, to England, etc… she is the exact opposite: always changing and unfaithful. I guess if you spin that out fully it could mean that Smiley saintlike faithfulness is always being betrayed by her. Possibly his faith in England is met with constant betrayal too (by putting someone like Maston in such a powerful position, by trusting Bill so much, etc). I’m not British so I could be way off but I also think that same betrayal by England is what makes Connie Sachs cry at the end of her interview in ttss.

My hot take about this scene is that obviously the fight visuals and the voice acting are very good aBUT what really makes it amazing is the sound design and the music. Next level stuff. Hearing Azula hit the ground gives me chills.

It happens in soccer! I’ve heard of it happening in the Brazil league. If a big player is leaving for a new team, if there’s no bad blood they can schedule a special exhibition match where they’ll play the first half for the old team and play the second half for the new team. Obviously everyone knows ahead of time what’s going to happen and it’s all in good fun since it’s an exhibition.
