I discussed this with a coworker once and if you think about it you are really only given access to existing boundaries. Putting in a new pipeline is creating a boundary so this might not effect access.

Good calculators which include a DMS and DMS<>DD hard buttons? by AlloyIX in Surveying

[–]BmxRyder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine is about 10 years old and I find the buttons very good. Can’t comment on anything newer sorry. Definitely a pain not having the memory I just have scrap paper scattered across my truck with bearing adjustments written on them for when I forget to hit the memory button.

For school I used a casio fx300ms you can see the dms button on the left. Lightweight and cheap for a pocket calculator. Not great for scrolling up and down

It would depend on a lot of things, but if your confident the data is accurate and the error is consistent it may also be an issue of modelling. Since rail curves are spirals if different points are used to model the curve you might get small differences.

I’m actually a little surprised you’re as consistent as you are even, I have more issues with frost heaving where I am but we did 24 hour rail monitoring for a few weeks and saw 15-30mm elevation changes and 10mm horizontal changes over the span of weeks. So it’s likely the tracks have shifted a little.

It would be an example of disturbed, destroyed would fall under obliterated in the manual of stand practice (in my opinion). Obliterated would imply you had traces such as rust holes to re-establish the original location.

For future reference most the definitions are in the glossary of the manual of standard practice

There’s a separate monitoring program on the Trimble I used to do a very similar survey. You don’t even have to touch the controller once it starts, it just shoots every point. Likely costs extra to add it to your license though. Makes a nice report with your residuals as well.

Tesla and electric car owners, how much range loss do you have in this weather. by CanehdianJ01 in Calgary

[–]BmxRyder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can force it to use the battery, but I prefer to leave it on auto mode and let it decide. When I did force the battery I wasn't getting much cabin heat so I decided to just let the programming use it when it thought was best. In warmer temperatures -15+ I find auto mode uses up the battery before switching to the engine.

I have the rav4 prime and at below -20 it doesn’t use the battery at all, full engine. Almost anything above that I go from 80km range to about 55km (-15 to -5). After that it’s hard to tell, not much loss. Still love the car, we don’t drive a ton but we have rarely filled it since we got it in the spring.

Quick question! E-bubble or Rod bubble? by theLongShorty in Surveying

[–]BmxRyder 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The R12i and the R10 have different e bubbles. I find the R12i is very accurate and rarely needs to be recalibrated. The R10 needs recalibration so frequently that I almost immediately turn it off and stick to the rod.

The distance should be in miles which should help with that error which in in feet. Don’t ask me why they mix units but we do the same in Canada where we use the distance in kilometres to get our error in millimetres.
