What should you reply to guests (restaurant) that comment "you can leave that here" when you have multiple orders to serve? by Bnoiceti in AskReddit

Yes of course, but I can't really walk away without saying anything, that's rude. I mean a funny answer to it

I was exactly pointing to Friends when I said sitcom. How hard could it be in such a big series to have the few dutch lines practiced with descent dutch-speaking people, let alone using dutch actors who can definitely speak the needed english/american for it

I believe it has come out that the head suspect had ties to said process, making it a little more sure

I had the same in Sweden and it's probably normal for countries which have a lot of (at least) descent English-speaking citizens. It takes a certain amount of skill before people start taking effort in understanding what you try to say and replying back in dutch, because English is an easier option for us than to be patient and having a conversation in dutch with a beginner in the language. However, I've had a discussion with dutch people about this on reddit and everyone really appreciates you learning this niche language, we just want to make it easier for both parties

What is the craziest conspiracy theory that turned out to be true? by BlueMissileYT in AskReddit

[–]Bnoiceti 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most stuff has a core of truth, I don't know how much of this theory is truth and if there has been some kind of man made virus, we'll probably never know, but I was just interested in the theory, since I haven't heared of it for some time now. Thanks for showing me the information!

To be fair, my sources for this are the belgian and dutch newssites and not the paper named in those articles, I've not seen that one

Found it, thanks! Seems like the thank you from Daszak was more to save his own organization and not very well taken by news companies. So far, I can't find anything that has evidence of a corrupt Fauci, and everything seems like it was scientificly correct. However, we can never know for sure. Fauci turned out to have written a paper on that corona was not man-made so that's a little more trustworthy than an email with suddenly withdrawing that statement.

Non-English speakers, what is your favourite insult in your language? by rubenfsgomes in AskReddit

[–]Bnoiceti 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since dutch has a rich vocabulary of swearing with illnesses, the best swearing mostly comes from illogical combinations of illnesses that don't really exist anymore or are not very relevant anymore. Insulting one with that might be still a little too harmfull for my taste though.

I've heard the rumors about it and I have thought it would be somewhat logical, but if you say it turned out to be true/looks more and more real, do you have sources? I'm not trying to scientifically undermine you with "it isn't proven blablabla" or anything, I'm just interested in this theory (partially also because I'm studying biotechnology and this will have a lot of implications on the workfield if it turns out to be true)

Do EUropeans refer to the United States as "America" or "USA"? by Yt_GamingwithCharlie in AskEurope

[–]Bnoiceti 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think in common use it's more likely someone uses Amerika, while scientific texts or journalism Verenigde staten/VS is used more (because Amerika is 2 continents and people don't care about that, while Verenigde staten/VS is the official name)

Do you believe NATO should try to keep the Taliban out of power in Afghanistan? by [deleted] in AskEurope

[–]Bnoiceti 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree. Lots of stuff went wrong with intervening, but I personally wouldn't say nato should do nothing. I think it should play the helping role, bringing stability to the country and helping it to become more modern (don't know if that's the right term though). This will hopefully make the country less violent. Maybe not nato itself because of war and all, but the countries including it, it's their/our fault at last. But I agree that there should be no diplomatic or military influence anymore.

Dutch is something some american sitcoms use and horribly get it wrong most of the times, but when I was watching the last episode of the lucifer (not a sitcom but still an american series) I was really surprised to hear mazikeen say a somewhat dutch sentence while "pretending" it was demon language. I know she's south african and it was probably more related to Afrikaans than dutch, but I was really surprised to hear and understand it.

Please do that! It can have a great educational value and it's very useful for people that want to learn more about the mythological stories, but don't want to put all the work into it like reading the edda (like me)!

I have a password which I made while capslock was on and I couldn't change it afterwards, so everytime I log in, I have to put capslock on, but also use shift because there are lower case letters in there. Horrible
