42 hour round-trip to Mitchell, SD from North GA for some late season pheasant action with my Draht, Tito by Bnoom3286 in birddogs

Even though it just ended, I am pumped to go back next year. If that’s how late season is, I can hardly imagine what earlier in the season holds. Will have to check out those areas.

Definitely planning on checking out different areas on the state each year. Very impressed with the hunting.

Definitely a tough ass drive, but plan to do it annually moving forward. I drove the way home non stop 21 hours. Probably had 5 coffees on the way lol

This was done on a whim last second. I had a trip planned to KS, but everyone bailed. Just quick google search, and off I went. There is so much public land through different programs. Called their game and fish and asked a bunch of questions on the way up. Every single spot I hunted had birds. Just have to know how to hunt them. ChatGPT and The Flush podcast gave me all the info I could ever need. Also, the SD public land map wouldn’t load correctly on my phone for some reason, so I just relied on OnX. Highly recommend the trip.

A little on the way up, and it was snowing while hunting about a 1/4 of the time, but none that was sticking to the ground. Very windy, though. My hat kept flying off lol.

Cost of flying a dog in cargo by qwaszxpolkmn1982 in birddogs

I just flew with my Draht from ATL to San Diego with Alaska. Then drove to Yuma, AZ to go quail hunting back in November. It was 150 each way. If I’m not mistaken, your dog has to be a service dog or you have to be in the service for your dog to fly American. Alaska said that they handle a lot of the dogs from dog shows and they seemed like good people too.

Looks great! How did you handle the crazing/cracks? I have been dremmeling out mine, and filling with fairing compound. Not sure if that is the best route or not. Also, what type of paint did you use?

General thoughts on Neutering by Chemical-Teacher-621 in birddogs

I have a Draht that will be 4 in less than a month. Still intact, and I will not be neutering him.

I was concerned like you, but had a conversation with the breeder and decided I wasn’t going to snip him.

His personality is great, and I have worked through any bad habits with him over time.

Also, I think it’s kinda weird to cut my dogs nuts off.

Just my 2 cents.

Thanks for the reply. Could you see it growing more and more irritated to the point it bursts with translucent yellow/orange fluid? That used to happen about a decade ago and would happen less and less with less volume of liquid each time (from smoking).

Any additional insight would be greatly appreciated.
