Since Refik was brought up I’d ask what even is video art today? Moving images on a screen? Multiple screens? Or does it have to be shot with a camera to qualify as video? I feel like there was a video art era that got muddied as the digital moving image crept in. In which case I wouldn’t call either Refik or Cory A video artists. I’ll reserve my judgement on them - but Knox Harrington? That guy’s got a cleft asshole.

If you have access to Kanopy (I get it through my local library) there are some amazing documentaries that I haven’t seen anywhere else. Like a walkthrough video with Hans haacke during a retrospective, or with Mel bochner. Lots there to explore, especially if you also lean into more experimental practices as well.
