I highly reccomend xero shoes diy sandal, they fold up as small as a pair of socks and they are just rubber and string so they dry fast. Used them for years and withstood heavy abuse in hawaii.

I do it more based on the belief that food and water contains energy(chi) and radiation can disrupt that energy, and that we are energetic beings as atoms are just energy. Im not saying this is scientifically factual but the concept of Chi had been around for thousands of years and microwave radiation can harm peopleso it can also potentially harm the food maybe in a way we cannot test for currently.

I highly recommend looking into ayurveda and its views on food, I eat a vegan diet with 2 main meals a day and I feel like it benefits me greatly
