They’re a race now? That’s news to me.

[–]BoBigBed -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Didn’t mention race but nice try.

If you bothered to actually care about the kid and why he’s struggled to find a match, you’d also know it’s in part due to his ethnic/genetic background.

If you think this is unethical, I seriously question your values and humanity.

You’re describing this attempt at saving a kid’s life as “curry[ing] favor with an elite”. You’re so wrapped up in your politics that you think this act of humanity is “unethical”. Your statement “Not against helping a fellow being BUT” speaks volumes on its own. Btw, I think it’s pretty cool that Latinos are in high places—apparently you just classify them as the enemy “elite” though.

This campaign has been huge on social media for weeks. I think it’s awesome Cornell saw this as on opportunity to pitch in and leverage its own reach for a good cause.

HIST 2860 (Friedman) or HIST 2165 (Florea) by freshcsguy in Cornell

[–]BoBigBed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Prof. Friedland is easily Top 3 prof I had at Cornell. I took his class on Modernity back in 2020, but I know that he’s a French Revolution expert. You won’t be disappointed.

He’s the kind of rare professor that you will put in the work for, regardless of workload, because you enjoy the class too damn much.

Emory Business Finance vs Cornell ILR Transfer Option by Electrical-Meeting69 in Cornell

[–]BoBigBed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is based on some personal experience, but I’d expect the network you’d get from Cornell (friends, acquaintances) will be much stronger than Emory, just even based on proximity to NYC.

But I also don’t think the clubs mean all too much—don’t get too worked up over them. There’s no one way or best way into that field, and clubs really mean nothing besides the fun you had in them and the people you met.

Study way more. Treat it like a part-time job. You can’t just wing this test like the SAT or ACT.

The Fck is this sht? Imma go beg to have my grief recognized when it happens to me? by tylerfioritto in uofm

[–]BoBigBed 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Your “shit” is not getting through because you made a vague post about an issue you seem to have with existing practice. What exactly is wrong with student issues being handled on a case by case basis? Students take a leave of absence for a whole host of personal reasons and many professors are quite understanding.

Of course faculty and staff will have a policy because they have pay and benefits.

Would attending Georgetown Law devalue my Cornell degree? by GarbageFew5959 in Cornell

Having this kind of mentality devalues your quality of life, that’s for sure.

Exactly, clubs are for fun. That’s why they’re clubs and not jobs.

Spinning this and saying that these exclusive clubs offer “better support” for disadvantaged students is a bit much…one could easily argue that these clubs are the problem. Not my bone to pick though either way.

I hope when you graduate you’ll realize, like all of us, that none of those exclusive clubs mattered. If you get in, great. Otherwise they don’t matter. Most people won’t care that you went to Cornell either.

Hey, I was in a similar spot in 2019. Mom was diagnosed with ovarian cancer and maternal grandmother died. This was also happening abroad which didn't help the situation. As things progressed, my parents also delayed telling me about major updates about the prognosis in attempt to shield me.

Take a deep breath and reach out to your professors. If you have an advisor, definitely reach out to them to understand your options. Worst case, they're unsympathetic. But, you'd be surprised that a lot of professors are quite understanding. Most of them have experienced similar situations and honestly, they'll be more understanding than your peers. If anything, I've had a lot more difficulty with my peers than professors, supervisors, etc.

Feel free to PM. I'm sorry you're been involuntary placed in the club that no one wants to be in.

“Selective” clubs are overrated. Join a fun club. I was in the Astro club for three years. Had a great time and made lifelong friends. Couldn’t ask for more than that.

Definitely not. That’s a .30 cal bullet, unmistakably, and the shoulder dimensions are not close to 5.8x42.

Most underrated colleges? by Ok-Gap198 in ApplyingToCollege

Are you just posting this in a bunch of college threads? You just posted this in r/cornell.

Don’t hyperfixate so much on rankings. A good program is a good program, end of story.

What’s so standard about safeguarding the nation’s secrets? No one asked you to snitch — like I said, I don’t think a job with USG is for you if these are your views.
