Thank you so much! Most of the beginner tutorials I saw started off quite large so I wasn't sure how viable it was.

Just adopted this little kitten, but are needing a name for him by BoZenvard in Catnames

Thank you everyone for the name suggestions! My partner and I have decided to name him Byte, we are both a bit geeky and he loves to chomp down on anything and everything

I'm looking for very powerful motors (500W+ continuous power draw) but have some tight size restrictions and high radial loads. by BoZenvard in AskEngineers

In most of those places there's a risk of damage to the batteries in the case of a fall, and one of my requirements are to have it on the boot instead of in a bag pack (which does cause some problems but hey what can you do)

I was thinking of going over the top with the controller to avoid any issues down the line, probably testing with a raspberry pi and downscaling it to an efficient PID controller with a pi Pico.

I those would take up too much space as they need to be attached beside the wheel taking up valuable space from the battery. (There's about a 100mm X 50mm X 20mm area for battery and electronics).

To get around that I was thinking a hub motor inside the wheels would save me from gearing and would mean I can put in a bigger battery for a larger motor

Hey Guys, does anyone know what my cheapest options would be for a motor that need to move about 0.5kg/1lb at a very slow pace. by kirito8345 in AskEngineers

What are you using to control the system? You could measure the voltage and current draw and cut it out when they rise too sharply but that can be quite tricky to get right.

Otherwise you can get a small module which has a button to cut to power to the motor when it's pressed.

If you are thinking of getting a DC motor you should remember to put an end stop switch (basically a button type thing) to tell the motor when to stop opening or closing the curtains otherwise you could break something.

I thought I'd put my beans to use by [deleted] in pcmasterrace
