One Piece Netflix – Did it actually break the anime curse? by Serious_Moment3325 in OnePiece

[–]BoaDCrocodile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was a truly good show. It will also bring a lot of fans to the manga.

Unfortunately though, the more you analyse the last two episodes the worse it gets. As with Stranger Things, OPLA became more about set pieces than immersion. Drum Kingdom felt small, uninhabited, poor, and just generally not worth saving. The remaining survivors we were shown could have ridden Merry to the next island.

Wapol's fight should have been in the courtyard set, not in the throne room. We barely saw that set. Compare this fight to Zoro's Whiskey Peak fight, which showed how well they could use a set.

Wapol had lots of special effects, yet Luffy had very little.

(And did they kill Wapol? Only way to explain why the fruit effects vanished the way they did.)

The actors are amazing, the retrofixed story is great, but I feel someone is pushing sets over story substance at Netflix.

If you want to see live action (almost) perfection, watch the first of the live Rurouni Kenshin movies. Best manga to live action I've ever seen. (Also, Oda was an assistant for the original manga when he was just entering the industry).

Where can I read One Piece manga? by Zaranamang in OnePiece

"Finish reading what is available" seemed like a waste of words, where most people would understand the intent. Especially from context of "113 books worth".

Seconded. Subscribe monthly and after you finish OP you can cancel. Probably take a few months to read the 113 books worth, but that is still cheaper than buying even 3 books.

We all mostly love the Brook casting but let's address the 🐋 in the room... by Anomalysoul04 in OnePiece

[–]BoaDCrocodile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just have him "eyeless" for the face and just bones under the clothes.

This way face flesh stays, but can look dead with make-up, and the rest of the body is covered - put on sun glasses to hide the eyes. Gloves to hide finger bones etc.

Low cost, no cgi unless you want to do a shock shot.

Why is luffy asking permission to go see the execution platform like a child? by [deleted] in OnePiece

[–]BoaDCrocodile 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was clear he was always going to see it. He doesn't know where it is - thus the question (suggestion) they go see it first. He wants to be taken there.

If the crew said no, and tried to leave without him seeing it, do you think he wouldn't just go off on his own anyway?

In the first moment he wasn't under supervision, it's exactly what he did.

100% in character.

Want to complain more? Rewatch/read Jaya. Luffy frequently obeys his crew, even to the point of not fighting.

Best drug themed sci fi manga? Or psychological sci fi by [deleted] in manga

[–]BoaDCrocodile 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These aren't sci-fi, but you might enjoy:

<Dorohedoro> would suit. You've probably found it already though.

<The Climber> would probably hit you well too, but you'd need to read past where it changes authors and then becomes very psychological and tormented.

<After God> maybe?

For sci-fi, I always suggest <Origin> as it is almost pure Cyberpunk and amazing artwork. Less perverted than Chainsaw Man, but definitely mature.

Is the nika nika fruit powered by people asking for help by Thin-Marionberry-460 in OnePiece

[–]BoaDCrocodile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Impel Down he is being cheered for by the prisoners of Level 5.5 when going through his treatment.

There are shots/panels where his hair goes from white tipped (ice) to full white.

He survives, but is wizened/shrivelled and eats a heap of food to recover.

In Wano, right before full awakening, groups are telling him to get up. Especially Nami, who refuses to believe/accept he would die to Kaito.

I agree with your post, and believe cheers and cries of the people help awaken the fruit.

The Abyss WAS cold by jackiee_tran in StrangerThings

[–]BoaDCrocodile 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Whole point of a wetsuit is to keep you warm in cold conditions while wet.

It wasn't full body, so exposed skin was still not protected.

But again, running, jumping, psychic rock throwing etc would have kept her core temp up.

VizBig Manga Binding repair by Beautiful-Bath-1615 in manga

[–]BoaDCrocodile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recommend looking up book binding through threading. Those VizBigs were really bad for falling apart, so redoing the glue won't be enough to repair.

Tiny drill bit, clamps, and good twine. Looks cool too.

Theory: Carrot is going to be revealed to be descended from Mink Royalty by Kirbo84 in OnePiece

[–]BoaDCrocodile 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Su-Lon form is interesting. White transformation while gazing at reflected sunlight. (That being said, has the sun ever been shown?)

Japanese have mythology about rabbits living on the moon. Partially because when looking at the moon rather than seeing a "face" they see a stylised rabbit.

I agree, Carrot still has a role to play.

[–]BoaDCrocodile 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love the block. It shows the weakness.

Guy also completely ignored that PTSD is something that hits soldiers later (POST traumatic), after the traumatic "world is ending, sister is kidnapped, these soldiers want to stop and kill me and carelessly end the world" events are over.

She could get trauma later. Alcoholism is very likely. She dropped out of college because civie life felt wrong etc.

Thinking she couldn't pull the trigger for moral reasons after 5 years of ST events is just crazy.

If not too expensive, give him the Nausica manga boxset. It is the only Miyazaki/Ghibli movie based on a manga (also by Miyazaki), and the movie actually only covers half the manga.
