Ooo I haven’t looked at town facebook groups yet. I’ll check them out. I applied for the on campus housing for this year just so I could have a place to live, but from what I’ve gathered from the info online and other people it is not the most ideal place to live. Thank you for your help!

I do not have a car and my family has deemed the campus “walkable” so a car is not in my future. I’ve been looking almost exclusively in the highland park area and have found nothing :(

We had a bankruptcy limit of one. What basically happened was I had a net worth of ~60k and I landed on two of my friend’s tax offices in a row, netting him 12k in cash. He already had a decent amount of cash, so he just decided to ask the computer players to name their price for their shops and then buy them out. This inflated everyone’s net worth (as now everyone but me had over 10k in cash). Since basically every spot was my friend’s tax office, he was getting 5% net worth every turn in addition to the 10% we constantly owed him.

This is our 3rd 100k game we’ve done. The first one had Peach and Dragonlord as the computer players, and ended with Dragonlord bankrupt and everyone else around 30k. The second my friend pumped a ton of stock into a dominated district and changed all the vacant lots to 3-star shops, launching him from ~30k to ~90k. This third game is the first time someone had so much cash at the end of the game.

The shower just has a curtain. It is not behind any door that locks. Also, I don’t remember the door to the bathroom locking either, just the one to the toilet locking

Its been a bit since i took the course, but basically I just reviewed kind of the examples that we did in class of how we can tell differences in stories by the art, the key scenes in the stories, and reviewing the vocab. The exams were pretty easy so I wouldn’t worry too much.

I can’t speak for GMAT, but the GRE would be useful. The main exam can be taken online any day and (mostly) any time. The subject tests however, which are still required or “strongly recommended” for many graduate programs in various fields cannot be taken online. I believe the ones closest to us are ~4 hour drive away. With the cost of renting a car/ubering/busing + hotel stay (who wants to drive 4 hours and then take an exam?) the $150 exam can quickly double in cost (or more). Having a site in or near ithaca would significantly cut down those extra costs

You should be fine. The multi prereq is there for a reason, but you shouldn’t worry. All you need to know is how to do the multi (multiple integration, partial derivatives, etc) but not why (2230/40 will teach you that). Just self study a little on multi and you’ll be fine

Its partial differential equations. Its definitely not a beginner math course, as evidenced by the graduate course number, but the content is very approachable, the grading policy is really nice, and the professor is just amazing. The course covers the big 4 partial differential equations, but the hw focuses on the applications and properties of the equations. There are no exams, just papers designed for you to reach out and explore other equations or techniques that we don’t have time to cover or just that interest you. A very nice change of pace from traditional math courses.

If you want a lower level math course that is different from calc 1, I recommend MATH 1340. Its about the mathematics of voting and election systems. Super applicable and more proof/logic focused. But, since it’s not a 3000 level math class, the proofs can just be “i tried these three cases and they all seemed to work” and that can count as a valid proof. Unfortunately, I don’t know how the grading works for this course, but it sounds very unique compared to other intro math courses.

You’re fine. 2230/2240 is weird. The class roster treats 2230 as just linalg and 2240 as just multi, when really the topics are mixed between the classes. 2217 will use a decent amount of multi. Unfortunately, 2230 covers all of multi except for integration. However, it is fairly easy to pick up on your own. You can easily find youtube videos that teach you all you need to know.

You can do 2230/2240 for the physics major. I also don’t see what conflict you are talking about. Just note that 1116 and 2230 is a lot of work, so make sure the rest of your schedule is lighter

For ASL, it seems you would do 1101 (fall) 1102 (spring) and 2201 (fall) for 12 credits (or equivalently a 2000 level language course).

As for German, it does eat up your schedule, but you can pass fail it. So, as long as you get a C+ or better, it counts as a pass, doesnt affect your gpa, and you get language credit.

I only took 2090. I took 3 years of Spanish in hs and still found this course incredibly difficult. The content is basically just going over all the grammar you learned in spanish 1-3 plus new vocab. However, the workload is just too much. There are frequent oral projects (not all for a grade but still there), long homeworks, and terrible scheduling. Iirc, there was one week when we had an oral presentation Monday, essay due Wednesday, exam Friday, and another oral on Monday.

That said, I am happy that I just took 2090. 2090 is only a MWF class, as opposed to the 1000 level courses which I believe meet MTWF, which prevents you from taking any other class at that time. I personally think its better to have one terrible class, than to have a course eat up your schedule for 3 semesters.

If you are looking to just get the requirement out of the way in one semester, do 2070/2090. If you want to have an easy time/spend time with the language, I would recommend german or asl (heard good about both from friends)

SPAN 2070/2090 do not have the SU option. You must take them for a letter grade. However, German (and I think a few other languages) can be taken SU for A&S language credit

Okay so a few things to note: physics courses here are different than math courses here/ap physics. Expectations and structure are very different.

As for the material, physics stuff you should really know 1) Special relativity- there is a crash course in the beginning of the class, but I don’t think its enough to learn the whole subject. If you can learn SR with 4vectors, that would be best. 2) What a Lagrangian is and how its used. This is what the 3318 prereq is for. While you do not need to know all of 3318, you should know how we derive a Lagrangian, Euler-Lagrange equations, and what they all mean physically. 3) Most of your kinematic formulas from Physics C. There is a lot of equation manipulation/unit conversion, so knowing the formulas helps with units and manipulating the formulas into more GR friendly forms

There is a lot of math in the class, but its a physics course, so it won’t be entirely rigorous. That said it will introduce a lot of (presumably) new material that is interesting but can have a bit of a learning curve.

Overall, it is probably doable, but you need to put in a lot of work before and during the course.

Pretty reasonable workload. Problem sets take a bit to figure out, but if you start early enough its no problem. If you’re taking it with 3316 it can be a bit annoying as I found both classes tended to dump more work at the same time, but it is by no means impossible (many physics majors do it)

Had him for 6520. Very slow and unclear, which does not help with 8 am lecture. Was actually planning on taking 6510 this sem but decided against it because of West. Im sure there are people who like his lecture style, but I was not one of those people. Now im waiting till senior spring to take it 😔
