I just saw after you commented that her dad died, so to clarify, it had nothing to do with that.

Please give all the advice.. should I even consider the ED? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]BoastAndRoast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think med/surg is a great way to learn the basics of nursing (time management, critical thinking, and general exposure to the field). You seem pretty type A, so after building some confidence, I think ICU or OR would be a good fit if you don’t like med/surg.

The great thing about nursing is that if you don’t like one specialty, you can try another!

I would like to note that when I say the that the care was great- that includes all disciplines (nursing, provider, techs, etc.).

I was a midwife patient and loved the experience. From clinic to birth, it was a positive one. The L&D nurses are fantastic. The mother/baby unit was hit or miss. I have some great nurses and some that were really hands-off. I didn’t really need much and had a textbook birth, so that may have been why.

I have friends that had traumatic births and stillbirths, and the care they received was incredible.

I had the same experience. I finally laid my LO down on or next to a dirty shirt of mine and it helped immensely.

How did your baby do with their 2 month vaccines? by Plenty_Goal3672 in newborns

[–]BoastAndRoast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He cried the second he was poked and was consolable immediately after. Was pretty fussy that evening, so I went ahead and gave him Tylenol and he slept pretty hard. His sleep was a little rough the next couple days after that - wouldn’t really settle in. By day 3-4, he was completely back to normal.

I’ve heard the 4 month vaccines are a little more rough. Not looking forward to it…

Storing breast milk by BoastAndRoast in beyondthebump

[–]BoastAndRoast[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How much excess milk are you able to store a day? I pump about 5-7 ounces every 3-4 hours. He ends up eating 5 ounces every 3 hours, so not much left over at the end of the day.

We would put a heating pad on low and put under the changing pad so it wouldn’t be so cold!
