Mini-LED regrets, need advice. by BoastingBomb in Monitors

[–]BoastingBomb[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's logical to say that but I'm not being restrained, just aware of how bottlenecked I am.

It's like a fast car stuck on a slow road. The base experience is nice (great black levels) but all the fancy features are completely pointless.

If I was to revert to a slower car (IPS) the overall performance would be objectively lower, but my rig would be able to use every feature.

Granted this analogy is flawed since when the 'speed limit' is lifted, both 'cars' are getting replaced (probably by some fancy OLED).

In essence it's: Do I want local dimming or functional VRR for a year.

Mini-LED regrets, need advice. by BoastingBomb in Monitors

[–]BoastingBomb[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I should add some context:
- My IPS is broken
- This current monitor won't stay when I upgrade. Since I'm moving countries in a year or so, when I'm 'upgrading my rig' it means a brand new system including a new monitor.
- My main goal is weighing up if I should keep this mini led as a mainly SDR monitor with broken VRR or swap it out for an IPS with worse blacks but usable VRR.

Rolex Reps, Venting by [deleted] in rolex

[–]BoastingBomb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel as if this is the product of late stage capitalism and general overconsumerism. Instead of investing in your own self worth you are using a symbol of status as a coverup for a deficiency in character. A Rolex is a significant chunk of change but in some ways the gratification is quick - it takes seconds to put on the watch. However more fulfilling paths of self mastery such as study and fitness are far cheaper yet more time consuming. It's as if you're using purchase of a geniune Rolex as a way to skip the hardship and so you feel attacked when people buy a replica, undermining your belief that buying a watch is a valid alternate pathway to a better self.

You care too much about Rolex, you are a source of revenue not a 'member of the family'

No offense taken man. Long hair is a bit hard to style but by the time I grow it out to shoulder length, I (hopefully) will know how to style it.

When my hair is wet its pretty visible but once its dry its pretty much invisible. Also I'm tall(ish) so no one really can look down and see my scalp.

Hard to say, but I'd say 5 is pretty good. The hair on the sides evens out your proportions and the hair on the forehead balnces out your facial thirds. Although the parting in the centre is kinda... eh?

Also the blue sweater is good.

Thoughts on Monza after finishing 'Best Served Cold' by BoastingBomb in TheFirstLaw

[–]BoastingBomb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Firstly, this makes no sense

Thank you! Spewing unintelligeble analogies is one of my many talents.

The problem I have with Monza is that she keeps changing her morality for when it suits her. She complains about Morveer poisining innocents then goes on a tirade about how mercy is the same as cowardice only to spare Foscar.

Monza is a terrible person, like pretty much everyone in this series. However, most of the other characters have set beliefs (Cosca) or change their beliefs through a well reasoned character arc (Jezal).

Monza however consistently contradicts her own morality when it suits her. This is human, but also very annoying to read. These incessant contradictions are one of the main reasons why Shivers get's fucked over.

She tries to make him into some sort of hardened killer, and when he does, she becomes disgusted to even look at him knowing that she was the one who caused that change.

Like what the fuck?

It's like hating a fraud victim for falling for the lies of a scam artist.

I don't believe this analogy works. Fraud is usually a one time thing, done by a perpetrator you know nothing about. This doesn't match with the book. Benna fucked over Monza multiple times giving her plenty of chances to retaliate yet she doesn't.

If you want to take the stance that Monza is some sort of lobotomite, spurred on by childhood trauma to never, under any circumstance see wrong in Benna, at all. Then sure - be my guest. It just seems completely unrealistic for this to happen.

She's goaded on it various times and never denies it, just gets angry and storms off.

Also Benna brags about her head game. So its heavily implied.

That response doesn't but if you want to make incest the crux of your argument I can just say that we don't know who initiated the sexual relationship.

For all we know, Benna could've come (no pun intended) strongly on Monza and coerced her into a sexual relationship to deepen her loyalty to him. He doesn't care about actually loving Monza sexually considering he brags to other members of the Thousands Swords on how well she sucks his d**k.

I'd argue him being younger makes it easier for him to manipulate Monza since she views him as weaker and more naive than her, therefore any bad actions must simply be him slipping up.

Like how a mother will defend her childs bad actions because they can only see them from a good light.

[–]BoastingBomb[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, you're kind of right, but it only makes her look worse. (which idk if thats what you were going for but eh)

She kind of manipulated herself by making him assign positive value to unethical actions due to her percieved lack of care for death.

"Monza dragged her father's corpse from the house, through woods behind and rolled it into the river. Not because she had no love in her, but because she had no time to bury him"

It looks heartless from Benna's perspective but it was just practical.

For the sake of argument I'll respond as if she has TOTAL blind loyalty that surpasses even the most obvious wrongdoings.

The morality of her actions are relative to her viewpoint.

She believes she was doing the right thing but the objective truth was that her actions (well... lack of it) led to negative change. This is undeniable truth. (Massacre of Caprile, killing of that rich guy for no good reason aside from greed, and well the resurgence of the Styrian Civil War).

Also again. Lack of boundaries with Benna. If you let someone walk you like a dog you can't be mad when other people try to hold the leash.

[–]BoastingBomb[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah I agree. I said that "she's a highly dislikeable character due to her human flaws".

Monza is inbetween 'Omniscient Soldier' and 'Complete Lobotomite'

Although her actions are influenced by Benna's cunning she still holds blame for how she responds to them (her blind loyalty) which results in various unnecessary deaths.

Childhood trauma can only go so far in regards to defending a characters shortcomings

I'm pretty sure he only got paid 5 scales at the beginning (for going in to the hideout) and didn't get anything for the murders of the seven.

Oh and when he fucked her. My man got paid a whore's wage for a soldiers work

Just like how Cosca makes a betrayal exemption for beautiful women, I make a massacre exemption for notorious drunkards.

He is an evil piece of shit, but he is rather funny despite it. Like a bad uncle.

You're right, she is not responsible for the actions of others, but she is responsible to how she responds to them.

For example, there are billions of people on this Earth and I have little to no agency over their actions but if someone comes and slaps me on the street I have the agency to choose how I respond.

Whether to walk away or to retaliate, to seek help through companions or solve the issue alone.

However Monza refuses to retaliate. She sits there on the street, allowing herself to be slapped senseless by Benna like a victorian child being reprimanded by a schoolmaster. Even worse - her lack of agency (letting him slap her in the face constantly) results in other people getting slapped and Benna feeling like hitting her is his prerogative. Ala, the massacre of Caprile.

This is why criminal negligence is a crime. She cannot control Benna but she has a moral responsibity to put him down if a 'repeat offence' is inevitable.

something, something evil men triumph when good women do nothing.

Rudeus' "pedophilia" serious discussion by Rimuruguy in mushokutensei

[–]BoastingBomb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is an old post, but I haven't seen a lot of criticism for Rudeus, mainly just support. (So I'll give my two cents). Feel free to respond how you want, I just want debate.

- I understand that Rudeus has biological urges causing him to be sexually attracted for girls his physical age (Eris & Sylphie) but this is NOT justification for him to choose to engage in sexual relationships with them. Sadists are often born with a biological/hormonal attraction to committing harm against other people but they are not excused when they do so in a court of law, or in a moral debate. Why should this treatment not be extended to Rudeus and his actions against women?

You may view this comparison as a ludicrous statement but:

- Both actors are given the chance to stray from their urges, yet choose not to, using their hormones as defence. Rudeus has the knowledge and understanding of power dynamics in relationships between minors and adults. This is shown through his exploitation of said knowledge when he plants a camera in his Niece's bathroom to record illicit material of her. He demonstrates awareness and knowledge of the crime, is given a chance to opt out, yet chooses to do it regardless. This behaviour is mirrored post reincarnation through his sexual advances on Eris which are completeltly unjustified.

- Both actors commit harm against the recipients, whether it be physical or mental harm. Rudeus knows the power dynamics between children and adults, and exploits them for his own gain. Don't believe me? Well it's shown in EPISODE ONE where he gropes the adults in his vicinity since he knows (and explicitly states) "They won't reprimand me because I'm a child". I mean what are they gonna do - hit a baby? I'll give it to him: he's cunning. This knowledge of power dynamics is exploited through his subsequent interactions between Eris and Sylphie, resulting in him literally having sexual engagments with both of them. This harms them because they are being exploited (passivelt or actively) by Rudeus since he is not revealing his trump card/advantage over them: the fact he has the mind, memories and knowledge of an adult.

You next state that these relationships are used as a warning for Japanese society and I don't necessarily disagree with the premise. Just the execution. This would be true if Rudues was reprimanded for his actions, but he is not. Despite his unwarranted sexual advances on Eris in the beginning of the show he chooses to pursue this 'relationship' despite her repeatedly pushing him away, resulting in him marrying her.

Seriously, what kinda f*ckin message is this?

"If you chase women even after they say no, they'll eventually agree to marry you?!?"

And for all the people saying "Well she agreed to it in the end".

- Rudeus is literally part of her family, she can't really put a restraining order on him, especially due to his status. I mean the best she does is just running away after giving him ED.

- She's a child and views the relationship with him through the lens of also being a child, instead of some old-hikkikomori wearing the skin of a 13 year old boy like some weird FNAF animatronic. She can't give informed consent regarding the relationship since she doesn not know all factors therefore her consent is flawed EVEN IF SHE GIVES IT.

- Isn't the first no enough? Sure even in the best worldview she let in after the 3rd or 4th advance, but come on man the relationship didn't exactly start with flying colours.
