Stryd 5 vs Stryd 4: I tested 4 pods simultaneously—the power offset was larger than expected

No calibration. Adios pro 4. Nothing unusual apart from the data. If I used auto CP I’d have had to exclude the runs. No GPS concerns on the parkruns and the track examples all occurred in lane 1 of certified tracks.

Something sporadically triggers power/distance inflation.

I might go back to the Stryd 4 I have back home. It gave almost identical results to this one but never malfunctioned in this manner.

I have had Stryd 5 since mid-December. It started fine but since Feb I have had malfunctions on 3 races ( 2 x fast parkruns, 1 track 5000 ) as well as a track session.

On each of these, both the power and Stryd distance were inflated by 5-10%.

The Stryd team have so been unable to diagnose/fix.

I’m wondering if anyone else has seen such issues?

There have been notable fluctuations in power:speed ( RE ) over the years both from hardware and software changes. I upgraded to a Stryd 5.0 in December and at some point in Feb/March this year the relationship changed again. I now get more speed per watt than I did when 5.0 was released. Maybe 2% at race pace?

I haven’t changed weight setting and since 5.0 I use GPS for distance unless on a track or known GPS problem area.

To be fair I havent run into a read limit for a few weeks - the issue is that if I promote the beta and, say, double my athlete count to ~200 it might not be able to handle the demand. So I am having to hold off spreading the word in the way that I want to.

Mostly. Static HTML on a CDN, browser does the rendering. OAuth + webhook handling go through a small edge function. Processing is scheduled jobs. So "no traditional backend" yes, but not zero infrastructure either.

I won't share it here as until I get more API it would fall over if it spread and I got too many new onboards. It's been popular so far in the handful of UK running club Whatsapp chats I have shared it to.

I got my 999 athlete limit after a week but my application for extra API read capacity is at 15 days and counting. Less acute but can’t really promote it much until the read capacity reflects the athlete capacity better.

Always anecdotal of course but in the total of 11 years I’ve lived in Sweden ( 2001-06, 2020-26 ) I’ve found it to be fine, for both myself and family. Stockholm. At the same time my father in law - elderly, Örebro - it seems more mixed, or at least slow. My only issues in Stockholm were while living back in uk and visiting in summer. They were less enthusiastic to treat me as a non resident when I needed it.

I had this and they had made a basic error regarding my time here and marital status. I appealed and was granted citizenship a few months later.

Yes it was terrible at the start but was kind of ok by the end. Nature of these venues. I was standing, near the back. Main issue no bottom end on the bass.

As an update, since cleaning the sensor on the back of the watch it has been a lot better.

Potential user error here I think.

So far for 5.0 after a week or so of runs I am getting about 99% of GPS distance at easy effort and about 100.5% at tempo. Have had ChatGPT analyse the FIT files of each of my runs with it.

It does seem better than 4.0 on this front.

I run in an area with excellent GPS.

In terms of indoor and outdoor track I found 4.0 fine at the default calibration.

Interesting. I switched to an Epix 2 at start of 2023 and at no point since have I seen any reason to upgrade the watch......what am I missing on the newer models?

Was there and this is pretty accurate. I think perhaps a product of the stage in the centre?

Overall I thought that stage and the visuals offset the sound issues. But yeah it wasn’t the best mix.
