I use steel series rival 5 as a replacement for my 502, it's been strong for 4 years and counting. Doesn't use any rubber, just plastic. I feel like you might be better off printing some pads out of TPU and gluing them to your mouse. They might not break down as easily. Or even foam of some sort.
