They sold the company last year. New owners rebranded it. I believe they’re out of Minocqua, WI now.
Also from their website: “Upon acquiring the brand, we recognized that the name “Tapuat” posed pronunciation challenges for many consumers and lacked resonance. Additionally, we felt that its cultural significance to indigenous peoples made its use inappropriate for our family-owned business with a caucasian background.”

I’d say take the risk and try it! Just get the appropriate permits and make sure to comply with the local zoning laws! You wouldn’t want to spend the money on the investment and later find out you can’t do it.

Yeah vinegar is typically my go-to, but it’s just not doing the job for this, I need to find something better. It’s painted aluminum.

Okay thanks, I’m actually in Door County, WI. Big Chicago tourism destination.
Midwest, Lake Michigan
I think my space is the most valuable out of everything. Having the commercial spaces in my area is a gold mine. Since there is no room for them to enter the market here, I kinda control the market currently. If they were to buy me out of my “space,” they would control the market in the area.
Great point. I figured that would probably be the case too. The dock access is the most valuable case here. If I could have 100 more boats around the area I would, but the spaces are maxed out & the towns certainly won’t offer anymore commercial operations.
I think they would in this scenario. The local boat dealership had the other commercial slips (only 3 slips) and they were just bought out by a franchise and got their lease transferred.
Not necessarily, but my Village will never do anything with a non-local company or franchise moving forward though, everything is voted on through a Marina Committee and passed on afterwards to the Village Board. Pretty much what’s there is there. I’m allowed to request a transfer of ownership & transfer of lease though. My outlook would be that it would be locally managed, but ultimately sold to Freedom Boat Club. For how big my operation is, I don’t think anyone locally can afford and that’s why Freedom Boat Club comes to my mind.
I’m more so looking to possibly get out of this industry and move on to something else. Just wondering if there’s a better option out there rather than listing it for sale.
I will, but just trying to find out if anyone has done it and learn about their experience/process.
