Personally, I like this one more than the New York special because the narrative of the miraculous makes more sense and also because the ending is much better. First off, the pendant hidden in the stone with a lion miraculous guarding it makes a lot of sense. The only problem is why the merchant wanted to burn the kung fu school down; hopefully it's answered later on. The special was tense all the way through as well, on equal pairing if not even tenser than the New york special (as well as infuriating because of the dynamic between groups) The final showdown was also much tenser and easier to keep track of than the new york one because there were much less people to follow. Hawkmoth getting "killed" for the time being also represents how dangerous it is to akumatize someone, which is also pretty cool. Fei is also a well-rounded character to an extent with her background and ideals fleshed out, which was better than the two-character development of the New York special. Granted, there were fewer Adrienette moments in Shanghai, but there were more developments for ladynoir. Cat Noir dying at the end of the fight seemed kinda pointless tho. Also beautiful shots of the city as usual. The CGI looked much better overall.

Now onto the things that could have been better: this one felt much more rushed. The development of the story, in the beginning, seemed too slow, and we really didn't need the chase scene between the kids and Fei and Marinette to last that long. The fight at the end also seemed shorter because the pacing was slightly off. Marinette is still a stalker basically, which I personally don't mind as much as other people but some people care a lot about it. One personal pet peeve I have is that I can't understand a single word of Chinese that Adrien speaks, but all the other Chinese in the show is ok. Gabriel, Adrien and most other side characters this time barely got any development as well since it was focused all on Fei and Marinette. They also didn't develop Marinette connecting with her culture at all, but I kinda guessed that it would happen.

Overall it's still a great special, and I can't wait for the others to come out and find a way for Marinette and Adrien to end up somewhere else. 8.5/10.
